Hi DeWolf, Scott
I've disposed of my '79 sans turbos, Tim Lynas formerly of Lynas Barossa Ford etc now has it, I expect that it will be broken up. It might pay to contact him for parts. I sold him on the car as a source of spares for his 928 racecar.
Cheers Roy

Guy, Thanks for that. I'll have to find out what year the heads are from. They have been ported and have 951 valves fitted. I'm thinking they wake the old 4.5 up a bit.
Kiwi, I gotta say.......honestly.......I'm not a great fan of the colour but it will remain that colour and hopefully it grows on me. My youngest wants the car when it's done and he really digs the colour.
Roy, Thank you. I'll have to hunt him down. It's getting hard to find stuff here for it.

Hi Guys,
I want to remove the rear cross member for coating. Can I just support the box / diff on a stand while removing the cross member? Also, one the cross member is out can I lower the box to gain access to rear coupler and remove the sway bar?
Cheers
Scott
Coated in good old Australian Outback red ochre.

Hi Guys,
Hope everyone is doing well. I've managed to get the rear cross member out, and have the tank removed as well to be sent out for internal chemical cleaning. Can I support the TT and remove the gearbox or, should I support the engine and remove the TT from the front still attached to the box? I want to remove the gearbox to have it cleaned and enameled.I am going to remove the front diff plate and get that polished and fit new zinc hardware while I'm at it.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
Cheers

I think it is easier to take out the box with TT attached but only after taking out the rear suspension.
Easy for me to say. I had the engine out. I took out the complete drivetrain with the car on axle stands.

Well it appears the Central Australian heat has done it's job on just about every aspect apart from rust. The rear brake lines were just aching to burst. Trying to bring this old girl back to anything resembling roadworthy is going to take me around 2 years at this stage. I think it's going to be worth it though. I'm hoping to have the back end highly detailed and back in by end of January.

A few hours of scrubbing with warm water and a soft scrubbing brush to remove an acre of Alice Springs dust. Hard to imagine this car has just over 60,000 miles on it. The heat has added 100,000 miles of damage!
Almost every rubber hose under the car is perished. I'll get the transaxle out this week and then start working on removing the engine.
