Because Greg and I are almost done restoring one.

Actually, because there's nothing like a GT coming on cam in 3rd gear at 4000 rpm, and pulling to redline in 3rd and 4th.

That's funny! Great answer! I've shifted enough gears in my life, so for me I prefer the Automatic. Since we installed the supercharger in my 89, it's a rocket when ever I mash on the go pedal.

Although I don't doubt that an auto with a supercharger flies along (like a manual with supercharger), I think we are talking cars that are at least somewhat approximately stock here. Whereas, yes, the GT is forgotten in the hierarchy, I don't think it is any less subdued.

Agreeing with Rob and throwing in the innate problems of the GTS motors, the PSD discs in the 90 GT, you are left with the 91 GT as the overall best in class. That is of course in less you want an automatic. In that case, I am not sure how to rank the cars.

Interesting that the guy wonders why the 928 didn't sell well, but I think he answered his own question when he stated that he didn't particularly care looking at the car. That sounds very similar to people's reaction to the Panamera.

It has always been my thought as to why the 928 didn't sell well, is because its look was/is so polarizing.

"Is the 928 GT the Classic Porsche to Own? " It's certainly one of them. As far as the 928 goes, it sits at the top but shares that perch with the early pasha cars (78/79) and the last of the GTS's in 5 speed trim. Just a hair below are the 93/94 GTS's and the 86.5. YMMV of course.

As to other Porsches, there are too many to list insofar as "the" classic Porsche to own (e.g., a 1957 Carrera Speedster GS/GT; a 959, etc)

Author forgot about the ‘89 GT and CS/SE. (No PSD.)

I guess we shouldn’t expect much from flatsixes.com when it comes to things not flat-six.

The 86 928 S2 Five Speed follows the GT direktly. It´s engine and the gearbox has the same genes and brakes and interieur are updated.

I'd say the 89GT is going to really increase in value as some thought long ago. For years the 928 has been a best kept secret. The secret has been slowly escaping and I think 2019 is going to show us some crazy prices on well maintained cars.

To add to what Sterling said...as well as crazy prices on well maintained cars... I think at some point crazy prices on the not so well maintained cars (and total pieces of crap) will happen. Kind of like what we are seeing on the 78's.....you couldn't give those away back in the day and now even beat- non runners are getting some money...
