Default Speedo Question

Early '86....speedo & Odo died. I believe it is completely mechanical, but hoping it could be a fuse issue?

It is a broken plastic gear in the head unit......very common problem often breaks if the trip odometer is reset while in motion but sooner or later they always seem to break.

If both stopped working I would inspect the connection in the spare tire well for the speed impulse sender to make sure there is no corrosion and that it didn't unplug itself.

After making sure that is good I would clean the dashboard grounds on the steering column and lastly, if none of the others worked, pull the pod and clean all the contacts.
