Beyond politics, please post a dyno graph of that 6.5L S3. I am very curious, it's got all the right ingredients.

The instructor that teaches SMOG to automotive students at the college where I work told me that anything newer than 2000 only gets plugged into the OBDII port for testing. If everything checks out, you pass. No rollers or sniffer

Only cars older than 1999 to 1976 have to use the dyno-roller test. Clearly the smog testing lobby got some good value out of their cash.

Not so sure, old smog test used a phone modem to contact BAR/DMV, new one uses an internet connection. No update smog check guys had to get a complete new system.

2022 smog today, 12 years on CARB-compliant aftermarket cats, passed with flying colors.

Another two years, another smog. The poor guy stalled it about 5 times getting it on the rollers, it was thoroughly heat-soaked by the time he got it spinning.
