I never really paid attention to the Weissach badge on my dash but noticed someone else's thread from a few years ago so looked at it and see that I have #219 of a supposed 202 to 205. I checked the forum for other chat on this and didn't find anything conclusive, though I did find mention of my # in a previous discussion ( https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-weissach.html )
Does anyone know the actually total of 1982 928 Weissach Editions? I guess I'd feel very slightly special if I have the highest number.
Certificates say 205. It would be interesting to see what the certificates say on those with an emblem higher than 205. I'd also like to know if they have the Weissach option code when the VIN is checked.
The cars came with a special certificate stating its number and the dealership that sold it. It's X of 205.
M462 is the Weissach option code. There used to be a Porsche website that would show all your options by plugging in the VIN but I don't think it's around anymore. There's a sticky on the top of this page where you can request it.
Also, either Carfax or Autocheck (can't remember which) will show the name as a 928 Weissach.

Thanks for replying. I bought the car used about six years ago; no certificate. I don't know where to find the option code. I did follow your suggestion, went to AutoCheck, the car comes up as 1982 Porsche 928 Base / Weissach. So, not knowing any better, it looks to me like it's #219 of 205. I suppose quantum physics could explain that.
I have notes in my Weissach spreadsheet on #219 - last I know the customer was in Texas (San Antonio IIRC). But that was about 10 years ago.
That is the highest number Weissach I have seen recorded.
They definitely made more than 205 as I own #210 and it is fully documented.

My family bought the alleged last weissach new in 1982, #205/205. As I’ve said before, the plaque, certificate and the photos that came together were made by VW/Porsche Audi or whatever the Porsche distributor was called at the time with little or no participation from the factory. On our car, it took a month or so to get those items after we picked up the car and the plaque simply stuck on with double sided tape, hardly a factory piece.
I think the only way to truly figure out how many there were and which was the first and last would be by vin #, not by those stupid plaques.
How'd it work with Porsche and the 928 in those days? I assume VINs were assigned prior to production? In which case having a later VIN might not necessarily mean it was produced in sequence. Having the latest VIN for a Weissach may or may not mean it was the last one produced, correct?

No correlation between a VIN and the Weissach number. I do not think they produced 200+ Weissach variants in one run. I could be wrong of course but my data shows no sequence relative to the number or the VIN.
Remember the Weissach was an option package and not a car per say. Highest number I have seen is #219. I have #210 & #172.

so you don’t think they were made one after the other but instead rather randomly throughout the 82 model year?
like I said, certificates, badge and the three photos that came with the car definitely looked like they were done stateside. Our car came from Germany with the luggage only. Non of the cheesy Porsche Audi post production crap.
One thing is for certain, those at Porsche that worked on these cars are becoming less and less available consult with. Many have passed and everyone with any contacts at Porsche should should document everything they can regarding the 928. Before it is too late.

im having this very same issue with two Gemballas that I have (slantnose cab and an avalanche). Very little in the way of documentation, those who were in the know are either dead or did so much coke they don’t remember.
