Not sure if this applies or is even appropriate, but both my wife and I have an incredible urge to find a nice R107 series. Anybody here have experience with these at all? There are a few engine options anything to look out for?

You still want a car that is "as boring to drive as a Mercedes and they were widely unworthy of the Porsche badge"??!! Ferry Porsche just happened to have felt the 928 worthy of his name and in fact drove his 928 to work as a daily driver. Real Porsche owners couldn't care less what you consider "worthy" of the Porsche name, much less Dr. Porsche himself.

After 15 years of driving the 928 GTS
I have no regrets the GTS was and still is a great car however for my personal needs the current MB S65 - SL55 is the right combo!
Nice going "T" enjoy!
For me the best driving experience after the 928GTS are my current S65 and Sl55 with the P30 option (Nuremberg ring tuned suspension/brakes and no limiter from the factory)
Nice going "T" enjoy!

Drivers like Jürgen Barth and Derek Bell who enjoyed their 928 are far more relevant to me than whoever going by the Porsche name and I am more than happy to be labeled a "fake Porsche owner" or whatever by folks raving about the greatest taxi manufacturer in the world.
Weight is a factor of inefficiency and I cannot see how anyone can have any interest in cars weighing more than 3000 lbs. In this context I am still trying to work out if bringing a street 928 as close as possible to this figure without tearing it apart is doable or just wishful thinking, considering how difficult and costly it is to extract power from the 928 engine.
I apologize to the OP for derailing his thread, and without belgiumbarry's joke I would probably have not even posted in the first place.

Every morning I walk by an S-Class coupe on my way to work. Beautiful ride!

Interior is nice too. Except for the dashboard, I just don't like the dash board of any new car. It's the aesthetics of the time and not MB's fault. Apparently, I am at least in part a last generation man still snacking on peanuts.
