OK. I haven't seen my color here yet. I won't say it's the best, or even my first choice ( maybe ), but I'll probably never see another one. and it certainly says ' 70's '. Light Green Metallic.

^^^. What is “silver clear coat” ? A coded paint color or is it a paint process.?
my car is silver metallic and I’m planning on repainting it the same color...although I have seen a few newer silver Lexus’s where the clear coat over the silver actually makes the car look wet..such a deep gloss and would look great on 928

On topic: Because of the brown interior, I would consider Crystal Green Metallic or other greens such as the Light Green Metallic above (think nature). Because of the red found in brown, the reds can certainly work. And, similarly, black.

The white car sold to a friend-of-a-friend's wife, who initially loved it. A couple months later, she brought it by and complained that it just didn't look the same. Hubby wanted to know what wax I had used, since obviously that was what was missing. In that meanwhile, her kids had been in the car, with plenty of evidence of fast-food consumption apparent, and it was kept outside. Rugs were stained, sills were scratched by shoes, glass was filthy. The car had been washed exactly three times she said, and even after those drive-through car washes it just didn't look the same. Obviously it was lacking the correct wax.
My wife has a white car. It takes the same effort as a black car. She loves the color, and has always had white cars... that I've cared for.
Folks should buy cars in the colors they love. IMHO, dark colors bring out the lines of the car better than light colors. I don't normally buy red cars, but would make an exception for velvet red; the few I've seen in person are spectacular. Rare colors are generally welcome, but there are some that are rare for a reason, like the early tan. It fits my "same color as the local dirt" definition for easiest to care for, but will always look like the local dirt. I don't mean to offend anyone with that tan, but it just doesn't do anything for me personally.

Sorry it took so long to answer your questions but I kept forgetting to check the doorjamb sticker on the Outlaw GT to verify my color code.
I hope I have stated it correctly as I recalled the "Clearcoat" from when I had it painted in 2006... But on checking it today it just says Silver Metallic. Droomans shop pulled the trigger after I disassembled the car and removed all the seals, sunroof, glass. bumper covers, lights, and all of those pesky parts that like to reveal paint lines... The car was sun fried and the clear coat had failed... It was clear coated again.
Anyhow the sticker just says:
Silver Metallc
Code 980 9 7
S7
If someone knows this color for sure, feel free to pipe in and straighten this out.
Thx!

Im dead threading it today here on Renn but hoping you are still an active member and have this beauty still. I am in the process of researching what color my 79 was when it left the factory. Since your car seems to be a 79 or 78 and has black interior AND is in Canada (mine was imported into Scarborough, ON in Oct 1978) i thought you may be able to help. (engine photos etc). It's a long shot but one i'm willing to take with this quick reply

This is a fun thread!
It seems that I've never been able to buy a 928 in a color that I'd have ordered it in new. I kinda-sorta liked my Hellbronze '82 when I first got it, but it grew on me. Sold it & regretted it, and it must have been noticeable because I ended up with an '85 in the same color. Once again, I wasn't looking for one that color; it was just a case of being in the right place when a clean 5-speed popped up.
My current car is mocha braun, which certainly is unusual. Not a color I'd have picked back from the showroom, but it's growing on me. I think it's an acquired taste, but it's certainly a color of the time period, and I think it fits the character of a '78 car very well. Non-metallic colors just look older. When we had the car stripped down, I momentarily waivered before giving the painters the final blessing on the color; it would have been SO easy to have gone with lindgreen or Minerva blue (my two favorite colors), both of which would have gone well with my interior. But I kept her original.
It was VERY difficult to not bid on that beautiful '85 Prussian blue car that sold recently. I had another Porsche in that color about 10 years ago, and it's a wonderful color! Metallic colors look SO good on '80s & newer cars!

I bought my Red 32V car out of pure nostalgia because I had the poster of a red one, as a teenager in the 1980's. It is my least favorite car, and I regret it.
In my opinion, silver is the sexiest and most intrinsic color on these cars, but my 79 is a close second, and Oak Green takes the prize. On Cork Leather, of course..

I can't disagree with the above. One of my favorite combos and I have yet to see it in the flesh.
