That as I have had to deal with other forums, I again have realized the greatness of this community and the sort of people that MOST of us are. To be able to have the depth of knowledge in one place and have those people be HELPFUL, and be able to communicate is a unique thing that sometimes we may not fully realize and should be grateful for.

Mercedes, Chevy, BMW - few and far between in the last several years as I branched out have I seen similar. Let me reinact for you:

Me: "I seem to have an issue with a misfire. Here is data and correlations."
Them: A few posts talking about random **** unrelated.
Also them: "You have no idea what the **** you are talking about, take it to a mechanic"

+1. I'm on other forums as well, including a sail boat forum, where it is actually the hip thing to be as much of an A$$HAT as possible. Explorer forum is friendly and somewhat useful, but maybe 30% of the knowledge.

Agreed - went to a global Audi forum when I bought my RS4 and was immediately criticised for my choice of colour - Nogaro Blue!

Anyone who knows about Audi RS cars, knows Nogaro Blue.

I never went back.....

Oddly enough, I find this forum to be very similar in terms of support, expertise, and entertainment to my favorite VW Vanagon forum. Certainly the content is different and the vehicles don't share many characteristics, but like the 928 isn't a 911, the Vanagon isn't a split-window bus. The owners tend to stick together and provide support without nearly the level of d*** measuring that goes on in other groups. So thanks for being a great group; I've lurked here since August and have learned (and keep learning) a ton about my 928.

Simply would not be able to own the car without this forum. It's the best with the best people and so much knowledge...even for those that sometimes take chances with their stuff a la electric heater valves (I have one working...it's a little oversized and I don't like that but it operates with plenty of overhead for temp and pressure...open normally, closed when energized (or when vacuum would normally be applied).

Again, this place is a gift...don't know where I'd be without it.

I agree with you guys. I love this place and feel like part of the family here. I have learned so much about my car thanks to the people here.

I have had great experiences on other forums (subaru-svx.net, and a merkur club forum) but none compare to this place.

This entire community has me spoiled. I wish this forum, parts suppliers, PET, Morehouse CD sets, and member created write-ups existed for all other makes.

I recently did a timing belt on a VW Jetta and I wanted to research to get an idea of what I was getting into and apparently everyone takes their car to the dealer because I could not find anything. I could not even find a definitive answer as to the replacement interval.

I have posted before, as something of a joke, that I know exactly where I'd be without this forum. Sitting in the garage, with a car that doesn't run. Sometimes getting behind the wheel and crying a bit.

However, it's probably a lot closer to reality that I care to admit. The support of this forum is awesome.

Yes. I've said it before: This place, collectively, contains complete knowledge of this car. No one person knows everything, but someone will know the answer to any and every question. Greg, Sean, Alan, Colin, Stan, Dr Bob and many, many many others who share their knowledge freely to those of us who are learning and trying to keep these cars going.

Add to that the ones who go to great lengths to supply us with the parts we need. Roger, who has found 'more than a couple' workable alternatives to the stupidly expensive factory parts. Mark, who gives us our annual 'Christmas Present' sale. PorKen & Constantine who come up with all sorts of things that improve on the things that the factory fell short on, as with the above list of 'smart guys', this list could go on and on.

I think that analogy is pretty apt.

The 928 is something of the 'red headed stepchild' of the Porsche world. We don't own & drive these cars so that other people can see us 'driving a Porsche' (half of them don't even know it is one).
As such, the 'di*k measuring' is largely absent. At least among ourselves.

I haven't been active on it for a while, but I have a Suzuki Katana and the forum has a lot of similarity to this one. The motorcycle is also misunderstood and looked down upon in the motorcycle world. It's not a 'true' sport bike, but quite capable for what it is, and has subtle attributes that the true 'hi-po' crotch rockets lack.

The 'us against the world' mentality keeps the infighting to a minimum.

Roger rocks. There is no more simple way to say it. He has been family to me when my own family couldn't/didn't/wouldn't. I wish that on my best days I could pay him back. It's simply not possible. many of the dfw 928 crew are the same.

There was a very dark time in 928 ownership from the late 90's I'd say until about 2010 where there were very few options for getting your 928 repaired unless you did it yourself. At one point, many Porsche dealers would not even work on them. Many horror stories of independent 911 shops taking a crack at 928 repair and failing miserably and charging through the roof to do it. The vendors and the well spring of knowledge here, and a lot of the personalities, many of whom are no longer with us, really set the tone for this forum during that time. We had to do it all "ourselves", learning how to repair, how to fab parts, or source them from other makes. I can remember when all of the major vendors on the rennlist (except Mark Anderson, I think he took on 928 International back on the Porsche Fans list, which was before my time), but for the most part everyone else, were just enthusiasts here that took their enthusiasm to the next level and started up what were originally just cottage industries - providing services or access to parts because Porsche wasn't providing either - to keep our 928s alive. Its much different now, with dealers willing to work on the 928, many knowledgeable independent 928 mechanics, and the easy availability of parts. Roger in particular has tirelessly sought out sources for "it's NLA - you're #$%^ed" parts.
Raise a glass to this forum, it truly is awesome in what it has done in the furtherance of the 928.

Get manuals, Morehouse CDs, get all the 928 "grammar books"... For the real 928 practice you need to come here and read :skilled mechanics, great experts, parts (thanks again Roger!), tutorials....are not available in the porsche literature.
