1985 Garnet red 5 speed, Barn Find, Lola 710
I got another 928 S for restoration,
The PO is a very nice woman and since she lives in a town with not a whole lot of people she couldnt find anyone to fix the car.
That said this was originally her husbands machine,
He was an Army Ranger and he passed away in 2010,
Since then the car was passed around family members til it came back to the current PO Paulette.
So after talking to her about the car and its story and what it meant to her,
I am compelled to just fix it and return it to her. getting paid for the parts and labor of course.
This is a good condition 1985 5 Speed with about 62 k miles, it still has original paint with a few flaws,
but overall in good shape for returning to DD status.
Since this machine was kept in a garage, it has not suffered the effects of sun or moisture as most defunct 928s seem to .
That said its getting new carpets black to tan, with Pasha door inserts, and a fresh leather dash recover.
Its also a car that needs everything,
so thats whats gonna happen
you name it its getting it.
MMs OPG , A/C refresh, HVAC refresh, T belt/water pump, front main seal, oil pump seals, intake rubber, fresh coolant G48,
New hydraulic systems for the brakes and the clutch, with a GB slave hose, and new fuel lines, and P/S lines
New Zimmerman brake rotors and Hawk pads, Fresh set of Boge shocks.
New tires for the 16 inch flat wheels. maybe some rear spacers.
Fresh tan Sliverknit carpet and leather dash recover from Rod and his crew up in Michigan,
A full interior cleaning, door rehab and vapor barriers refreshed.new hood pad,
New hood and hatch shocks, hatch collar insert,
Also a new set of H4 7 inch Hellas to replace the faded out Sylvania bulbs.
I have a rear bumper Euro lamp and was considering installing it since the bumper cover is coming off to replace the rear bumper shocks,
looks like the car was pushed at some point so the PU has a slight dimple inwards.
A paint less dent detail from my excellent PD guy.
So I will detail restoration thread,
this so others can see how much time and parts it takes to make a nice solid machine.

Well the car is home,
Started by charging the battery and cleaning the terminals and battery connection points.
It took me about 3 hours of checking things T belt tension and belt condition, it was too tight.
After these basic checks, I cranked it and got it running.
Based on what I found someone was messing with the relays and didnt pull the correct relay.
I found the Starter relay and the LH relays had been pulled,
but not the Fuel Pump or the Fuel injection relays.
I figured that these other relays must be good ,
so I installed a new Fuel injection relay ( to the right of the starter relay), It had a broken pin that rattled when shook.
after a few cranks the engine started up and fell into a smooth idle.,
So I let warm up and then took it for a drive, all of the hydraulics work, with a smooth clutch and rusty brakes.
The 11 YO tires are like wood and easily spun on the ground so not very safe to go far with them.
Anyway it needs a lot of catch up work but now its gonna get it .
First easy thing new headlights
The original Sylvanias had the silver coating falling off the reflectors,
so they came off and into the trash.
After some searching, I found a set of H4 Hellas on Amazon for 77.00,
so they go on with some 3M protective coating applied to the bulbs to keep them rock chip free.

My 85 was garnet red too, with the tan interior. I love the color. Once buffed and detailed, it is one of the best colors on a 928.

Lola was the name of her husband’s favorite song and the 710 is the PO’s birthday
