...and then you have the folks who really wanted to go to Berkley, or wanted the go to a Berkley of 40 years ago, and are intent on living an anachronistic hippy experience. Always trying to more politically and socially extreme than Berkley just to prove something.
So. Yeah. Now, how would chopping off body parts help?

Hello All,
Just another update. Yesterday, I attended the sentencing of the primary individual that burglarized my shop and stole Virginia. I say primary because the accomplice is still out there with the remaining items and the primary perpetrator isn't giving that information up. Lane County was very good at advising me of my Victim Rights a couple of weeks ago and I elected to attend sentencing. They informed me earlier this week when sentencing would take place and asked if I wanted to make a statement during sentencing. I said yes. Normally, I would have been allowed to attend in person and face the perpetrator to let them know how this whole ordeal has impacted me and my life. However, due to the Virus, the whole proceeding was conducted via video chat and over the phone. I was on the phone. The judge and recorder were the only one's in the courtroom from what I understand. It was my first experience attending a sentencing and I'm glad I attended and made my statement directed at the perpetrator. The judge gave me feedback that he was actively listening and nodding in agreement on the video chat and he did say he was sorry after I said my piece. The DA told me before the proceedings that he was glad I elected to attend and say something because it doesn't happen that much and he said it was good for the DA staff, courtroom staff and defendant to see and be reminded that there's much more behind the scenes in terms of personal impact to these cases. Often times, it's easy to get wrapped up in the procedures and negotiations.
The judge made no adjustments to what was negotiated between the DA and the defendant's attorney. 88 months prison time.

Glad there's been quick consequences for the main perp in him being held accountable for his actions. Hope they catch the other party & recover the rest of your belongings. I tip my hat to you Dwayne to be involved in the process of his sentencing as well. Hopefully the 7+ yr sentence doesn't get reduced down after a short while as so many do.

Glad to hear that the one thief is going to prison.
No clue about how Oregon works, but here in Wisconsin, we have a 'truth in sentencing' law.
No 'good time', no 'early release', none of that. Parole can be an option, but that's usually determined at the original sentencing (sentenced to x years with parole a possibility after y years).
Good of you to take the time and effort to 'attend' the sentencing too.
