Thanks for the tip! By the way, I tried researching here how a fire develops from the power steering and couldn't find any. Where to get info on it?
Plus in Dwayne's write up he did not say where to get the hydraulic hoses. Home depot?
Also, what are LP hoses? Sorry Im not familiar with that one. But if they are the fuel hoses, yes, I have already replaced them.

I actually intend to do another intake refresh. This one, I just did hastily just to prove if I can put it back together.
So I will include the PS hoses, etc.

The power steering system has three sections- reservoir to pump- low pressure, pump to rack - high pressure, rack return to reservoir- low pressure. Fire invariably comes about due to a failure of the high pressure hose that squirts hot power steering fluid onto the exhaust that causes it to flash off. The HP hose can be rebuilt using the end pieces but they have to be indexed correctly or the thing will never install correctly. The LP hose sections Roger does them- I made my own because of remoteness/time factor.

I'd really like to make my own. I did the fuel hoses myself as well and Im on a budget with this stay-at-home deal. Ive got gobs of time but no income at the moment :-) If you don't mind sharing where to get the parts/hoses? I appreciate it. Thanks again, FredR.

The yellow is quite a surprise when you open the hood!!! Are you going to put it back that same color or have you thought that far ahead yet?

Good for you on rebuilding your hoses yourself. I had the short front fuel hose spring a pin hole away from home. Took a chance, and sure enough mobile automobile hose repair really is a thing! Lucky for me. I’ve replaced a number of rubberish hoses on another car with stainless steel, my repair shop made them for me though, LOL.

No clue where to source raw hose material, but if it’s something people want Amazon probably has it. If not your local auto parts store can probably tell you the place to find it.

I find a lot of metric hoses, clamps and fasteners at Belmetric.com. Even ethanol resistant fuel hose, BTW.
Good luck,
Dave

The high pressure hose can be rebuilt by any decent hydraulic shop- precise orientation is critical to success. The low pressure hoses are more tricky in that one of them has different sizes each end- in my case I had some oil resistant hose that was very flexible and I routed the hose with gentle radii to avoid kinking- the easy way is to get the two LP hoses from the likes of Roger- he can offer the correct sizing and profile for a simple bolt up.

Sacramento sources- don't go to the hardware store
Have the high pressure hose rebuilt using the correct hose - try PIRTEK on Power Inn rd-( look them up) or Hose & Fittings in West Sac. Have them duplicate exactly the old one (clock position)
Get the return hose from them too- must be compatible with the fluid.

You're not going to be able to assemble a high pressure hose yourself, at home....too much pressure for any kind of hose and clamps you can find, except at a hydraulic shop.

The low pressure hoses you can almost do....the bends get tough to "fake".

Yes I plan to put it back soon. I used the silver donor car to get the white car together but now that they are both working, I am going to switch it back.

Here are their current pics:
