Not happening until you jump through the civil hoops.

These situations are covered by Georgia Consumer Law:

http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/...text/sb225.htm

Of particular interest is this section of the law :

Be sure to read the entire law in the link, it outlines the duties and protections afforded to the shop and the customer.

Disclaimer to all parties:
I don't know squat about the law, I looked this up on the internet.
I don't know either party in this dispute
I don't represent either party to be right or wrong.

This is why I am not paying for a fake invoice with a credit card and disputing it.

Good idea to put factual bad reviews, however I learned that Yelp and Super Pages and the like tend to favor the paying subscribers (the business owner). I actually caught them doing this red-handed when they accidentally sent me an email intended for the "business" owner (scammer) that I had put a (very well deserved) bad review on. They were basically alerting the owner and working with him to get rid of all the bad reviews. Persistence was key, however.

An approach I have heard about that can bring results and is within our legal rights is to prepare to picket the place, though I don't know how that will pan out in today's climate. Nevertheless, you can actually hire picketers. Inform the business via flyers and their fax machine and email and phone messages that if the matter is not resolved you will be picketing the place with the facts of your dispute on such-and-such date. If it is not resolved, you call the police and let them know you will be peacefully picketing the business and when. Then bring in the picketers with the signs you put together. Don't know if he cares about his local neighborhood reputation, but it may prompt some resolution.

Best of luck!

years ago, I had a very similar situation with a shop in Florida. In the end it worked out, but it was no picnic. I hope this works out for you. best of luck and

I’m confused. I was from your first posting of your thread.

You sent your car eight (8) hours away to have exactly what done to it that couldn’t be done local to you? You paid a $7,700+ invoice, but were later sent a $3,300+ invoice for storage fees, correct? But you say that if you paid both you would be out $5,000. I don’t get the math.

Why would your insurance company get involved, unless you called them? And even then, if you called them to discuss this civil discrepancy why would they get involved? The man didn’t steal your car by what you described, you and your car are involved in a business relationship with the guy. Why would your insurance company report your car as stolen to the police given the real relationship that exists?

If the man moved, that is not a crime. WTF is actually going on?

TIL 6 of elderwood's 9 total posts reveal the crime of the century. And I still don't understand it.

Lighten up, Columbo.

There's not a wealth of shops in Florida who anyone would trust. I have one of my 928s with a shop in Atlanta right now, which is 6 hours from me, undergoing a full engine rebuild and multiple WYAIT for the same reason.

Why does the OP owe you answers to your questions? Some critical thought might bring you to the conclusion that maybe, just maybe the cops declared it stolen if the guy moved shops, told no one and left no forwarding address. You know what happens when the cops tell you they believe your car was stolen.... the smart owners then call their insurance company to let them know.

RVM is a 928 Grifter and Gypsy. Be happy that it's not you going through this BS and maybe cut the OP some slack.

Shark26262 is fairly new the 928 group and is smart to question all that's going on. He enthusiastic and likes to provide information that he's accumulated. I'm glad for people like him that question the bad comments that happen here and he is able to see the light on some things. Carl comes to mind on that.

This situation with Gregg and his car and Garage 928 sucks. Gregg talked to me a year ago about wanting to get his car to me for some work, and others of his steed for more work and I could not set up any sort of date for it because of my own back log for 928 work. He took his cars to Garage 928. Rich VM has been around for a few years and his work has been a roller coaster for people. all customer related due to his parts business or his work. Hell, he's had 928 guys invest huge amounts of dollars in his business. . Now I'm going to say this up front, he (Rich) is not a competitor of mine. I lose more customers because I can't turn them out fast enough to make most people happy. Hence how Gregg ended up at Garage 928. Greg Brown does better work than I and I hope one day to reach that level of service and detail. There's a reason God is looked at so highly and in the 928 world, Greg Brown is it.

Gregg (OP of the thread) sent his cars for a bit of work and I only know the details due to Gregg sending me the invoices, details and posting them in my FB "playground". Which I can post all of them here. Gregg posted his thread initially in the main Porsche 928 Group on Facebook which has about 5k members and it was quickly deleted. No clue or care why but when asked I told Gregg he could post it in my group and I'd let it fly and all could comment. My personal interactions with RichVM were years ago and I'd have hoped his **** got worked out and he was doing people solid. Apparently the issues just got worse as he paid one person at the expense of another. I have no other experience with him besides receiving a few cars that were in his hands before I got them to make them right.

These were the invoices posted on my FB "playground" Prices seemed in line with what I would have done. The issues arise with some final bill sent after Gregg paid the intial $7k bill. I think Gregg can post the FB conversations about what I don't show.

These invoice are what were given to Gregg and is what he paid. There were multiple FB chat exchanges about how the Torque Tube bearings "just went out" and he would cover those at his own expense.

Timing belt job done.

Guessing this was the after picture, just taking what Gregg has shown.

Final invoice after Gregg was told his car was to be delivered, 3 weeks prior.

I have seen communication between right and Gregg stating something along the lines Rich would cover the TT bearing replacement but from my view that's crazy. That's is a huge job and not something that I'd eat as part of some job.

None of the mechanical work, at all was done to my car before or after I paid the invoice. JJ Best has the title.
