It sure this solved it.

Only thermostat they had was a 175.

Problem is. I have now have a 175 degree thermostat. And sharktuner reads 199-200. Gauge still high. It has wobbled down and back up. And I've seen the same 20d jumps on the sharktuner as well. They only last a few samples. I'll clean the sensor plugs later today. Limping back to Reno for the night. Porsche parts to me at 8a tomorrow.

A 175F thermostat, whilst slightly incorrect will not cause your issue. An engine running at 200F [94C] is running at a reasonable temperature as far as I am concerned. I take that is with the ac running and reasonably warm ambient temperatures.

Remember where the thermostat sits and where the temp sensors sit in the water bridge, after the pump. Your 200º reading might not be far off. Find a Harbor Freight in Renoville and grab a cheap IR thermometer. It might help some with diagnosis. HUGE Amazon warehouse operation i Fernley ~~40 mins east on I80. Don't know if they have a will-call desk though. The ride across I80 between Reno and SLC isn't completely lonely but it's close. Use appropriate judgement.

Im kicking myself for leaving my IR gun at home...

All outta stock here in covid-ville...the parts stores say more get stolen than sold.

I know its a double thread, but in case most are not following the Rendevous thread..

here is a ST log of my coolant temps at 98d at 4500', AC on.

It was a 30min drive @80mph from the rest area where I got a low coolant light (found the old seal was dripping), and filled it back up and drove back to my buddy in Sparks, NV. It got warm, but plateaued..didn't keep going. This may be normal for conditions, but at this point I need to rebuild trust. The Tstat seal leak is a dripper not a blower, so its not affecting pressures/temp much really.

Thanks for the input..I know this car pretty well, but I need get trustful on the data. Ill spend this even cleaning the temp sensor posts under the hood as well. One on the non-temp2 sensor came right apart when I tried to unplug it...so..I can repair that.

Looks like 204°F. Under those conditions, normal-ish I think.

You don't have your MY and transaxle in your sig. But, if you've got an '87-88 with the 2.20 rear then you're not turning the water pump very fast... especially if auto-box.
