I don't think IB has the ability to evaluate merit of individual posters.
Then they are operating blind, and you'd think that they'd empower their moderators to be able to advocate for (ex-) members like Sean who provide enormous amounts of value to IB's platform, and who pay for the 'privilege' to do so. I find this decision very disappointing and as someone with 15,000 posts and 12 gigabytes of 928-specific photographs scattered across those posts, it makes me question my ~15 year commitment to supporting Rennlist.

I'm with Roger and Sean. I have no interest in the OT Forums on RL. I have other boards that I go to for politics, firearms, cars, etc... I don't do all subjects on one board. I come to RL for information from those who are usually far more knowledgeable than myself. I never could have owned a 928 without the technical help on this board. I came to PorscheFans in 99 if I'm not mistaken. Then it became Rennlist, and I was on the email list. Then when the discussion boards were created I was in heaven. I could get an answer within minutes, if not seconds. What a fantastic resource!!! Don't screw it up by getting pissy over something from the OT board that has nothing to do with why we're all here on the technical forum..

For the record here are my thoughts.

I think its time for this electronically induced hysteria ship to be turned around.

Being an American means having the ability to express your view no matter what it is .

So many today walk around, watching their back worried about being labeled a something or other.

After this happens then our ability to look in front of us gets distracted and the idea of free thought goes away.

Once this occurs Common sense and human dignity also pack up their bags and head on out.

I think its time to Cancel this cancel culture,

Silence our fake news media,

Get a pair and hold on to them,
Get off your knee and stand up for America and all she stands for.

Be proud of our forefathers who fought to give us this freedom.

The balance of our humanity is swinging precariously in the wind .
We need to anchor it to firm stable ground.

And bring back the ability to use our common sense without fear.
That about says it all. This right and wrong (sensor) behavior is a much bigger issue then this forum.

On a normal forum that is the way it works. There is behind the scenes talk between moderators and admins, where one particular moderator can argue that a certain member might have committed a bannable offense, but that the positive contributions the moderator remembers outweight that (although any other random member would be banned for the same offense). That requires that the moderators are at least "local enough" to a specific forum to know the main contributors.

I don't see any indication that IB moderators know anyone in particular on the many properties they police. And of course they are police, judge and executioner in one. With no press or reporting or notification or information disclosure channels.

That's how private clubs work.

People often go out of their way to ignore that.

So where do we go if the IB gestapo is ruining the place?

Thanks for taking a stand on this Roger. Hopefully IB will respond and take action to fix the problem.

I don't look at, or participate in OT very often, but for anyone that is interested in RL history, OT was created as a way to keep the main 928 forum technical without a lot of other chatter. Below is a post from Wally back in 2002, where he was stating to propose the idea to John Dunkle, original creator of PorscheFans/RennList. (At this time, the original email list was still running, but John had already created the web forum and both were live.)

Subject: 928 List
From: Wally Plumley
Date: Mon, 04 Feb 2002 12:18:25 -0500
X-Message-Number: 55

I greatly enjoy the 928 and the 928 people associated with it, but I will
have to admit that several times over the last couple of weeks I have come
very close to following the often-repeated advice to "get off this list".
RennList has been a great source of information for me, and for most of the
4500 members of the list. Lately, the number and tenor of the "off topic"
posts has totally removed any pleasure that I have derived from the list.

I also greatly enjoy attending the various 928 functions that I can get to
(Sharks in the Mountains, 928 Frenzy, 928 Owners Club Convention). Part of
the pleasure is talking to the 928 people who attend these events - at
breakfast, in the parking lots, wherever we may meet. The tech sessions at
these functions is, however, often the highlight of the event for me.

It is notable that these functions are separated at the face-to-face
events. I don't expect to give a formal presentation at the dinner table,
and I don't expect heckling and loud off-topic conversation during the tech
sessions. There is a time and a place for both chatter and tech.

That seems to be the primary problem with RennList at the moment - the
chatter and the tech have become antagonistic, and appear to me to be on
the verge of destroying something that I love very much.

John Dunkle (the 928 list owner) has attempted to help by creating an "off
topic" discussion list - It obviously hasn't worked. I think that there are
two major problems with this approach.

First, there is a lot of difference in an eMail list such as this, and the
web-based discussion group with separate threads. It simply isn't as easy
to use.
Secondly, the discussion group is equivalent to dumping us out of our
private 928 meeting room, where we know nearly everyone, and putting us
into the hotel lobby with a huge number of strangers, who are already
carrying on multiple conversations. We simply don't know anyone, and don't
know what they are talking about in many cases.

Accordingly, I have suggested to John Dunkle (who is also very concerned
about the current status of the 928 list) that he create a new 928 list,
perhaps to be called "928 chatter", and that the current list become "928
tech".

Anyone who wants can join either or both lists. Joining both will be
equivalent to being on the current list. Joining "928 chatter" should get
you 80% chatter, 20% tech, while joining only "928 tech" should get you 80%
tech and 20% chatter. No list ***** will be needed to try to throw people
off the list because they don't like the emphasis on tech, or because they
don't like the off-topic chatter. There will be room and freedom for both,
and everyone can choose the emphasis that they desire.

John has been busy with better things to do for the last few days, but he
appeared to like the idea, and says that he might well try it when he
recovers from Daytona.

I see no drawbacks to the idea. Any comments?

Wally

+1.....but I'm guessing it's way too late.

This is the forum that brought me to Rennlist many years ago. If IB is going to ban people from this forum who somehow upset IB politically in a different forum, it's time to turn out the lights and move to a new (non-IB) forum.

It appears IB has a grossly-inflated sense of importance and has a mistaken belief that they are irreplaceable.

IB...fix this, or we vote with our feet.

I'll always have your back Roger. Let me know if you want to start a boycott or whatnot.

I had no idea what a behemoth IB was. Below are just their automotive websites. They also host legal and medical websites like WebMD.

+928. I stand with Roger and the entire group.

Has there been a recent policy change on Rennlist or perhaps assigned moderators themselves are not being monitored for personal bias?

I have always valued this site for its depth of knowledgeable members.

Paid member since 2012...the highlight of my mostly crappy days, is the ability to melt into the 928 tech forum here. I stay out of the OT and really any other forum. Removing these fine folks is in the least, a travesty. I stand with Roger and the rest of the 928 folks...ever heard the saying, “Punish in private, Praise in public”? Methinks this could have been handled a bit better. Ban them from the offensive forum, zap em a message and tell them why, accept their rebuttal, and move on.....these folks, and many others are part of the reason we are all here....cmon, support us, your paid members who support you, and make this negative into a positive!
