Wow, I've been tied up all day and haven't had a chance to catch this. I most certainly stand with Roger on this. And ... I know from the FB sandbox of Sean that he said wouldn't come back even if he could, but hopefully he would come here nevertheless to "tweak a screw or two" for us from time to time if IB steps up and fixes this cluster fvqu. Sean, you are one of the essential ones. And you too Worf, and I know where you stand as well.

This forum is known the world over. While I haven't been around as long as some, I've been here for awhile. I've seen some big things, some very disruptive things, happen over the years. We've lived through the likes of characters like Mason, Russ, the kid with the motorcycle who traveled across the country then ripped off Bigs no less. We've had the dangler, we had some salty mods (Randy - I like you but you were a freaking drill sargaent). We've had big blowups and blowouts between well respected folks on this forum, and through all that, I've never felt that Rennlist wouldn't shrug it off and survive. This place was always bigger than those things. And when John D sold it to IB, we knew that some change was coming, and John D started a new sandbox that everyone thought would replace this place (Reutterwerks). Well, it didn't. And the "Bird" has never been a place for reliable info, it's a land of misfits, except for when Stan or Ron or a few others go over there sometimes.

But for the first time, I think this forum is really at an inflection point, a situation that may not be reversible and that may turn this site into a shell of what it once was. We are on the verge of losing the heart of this place, and that is not good for us enthusiasts who drive the business to your sponsors on this site IB. These things have only so much elasticity, and IB, you may have stretched this one to the point of tearing and not snapping back. With technology what it is, you could easily have just locked the group out of OT/P&C, or better yet, you could have been more tactful and steady and just doled out some "vacation time" to let heads cool. For christ sake we are in a pandemic and an election year in one of the most devisive times in the history of the US. Of course things were going to get rowdy. But firing the mods who knew how to run with a steady hand (Bigs? Common man!!!), then cutting off the best of the technical, long time contributors, damn, that's beyond stupid and short sited. You went nuclear, and the fallout is big. I don't know if it is fixable. I hope so. I for one need this forum.

I don't know where the next best place would be for 928 tech content with contributions from the best in the business. Maybe 928OC? Who knows. I know the new site is one where I like to hang out for the non-tech stuff, and I like the gang there, as I did when they were here in those sub-forums. So I'm done with OT/P&C here (I was hindered for a bit too, because evidently my handle showed up on the spy list from the new site, but that was finally fixed, I can edit again, or so it seems). But I don't want to be done on the tech side.

IB - fix the mess. Before it is too late. Weigh in and respond to Roger and everyone else here who have made this place what it is.

This is such a mystifying spiral of error and stupidity it reminds me of the senior management at some places I've worked.

I rarely looked at the OT and P&C forums and mostly shook my head when I did. The 928 forum has been great in providing THE BEST 928 tech info anywhere. Dave and Sean have been among the biggest contributors and many of us owe them for it. So, IB and moderators, get your act together.

Also +1 for Roger and his OP post - he is always a friendly and helpful voice on the phone and on screen.

Finally +1 to Worf's point of being the customer, not the product. We pay for this stuff. Let's demand better.

Taking away the edit function from someone considered a "flight risk" actually makes a lot of sense to me. I.e., we'd be screwed if Sean, Stan, Dave, Greg, Dwayne, etc. all went back and deleted their content. Personally, I'm printing to .pdf a LOT of threads that I have bookmarked just in case there's ever an exodus.

I agree with Roger 100%, and have been following this debacle since the Tuesday Night Massacre. It's been a lot of reading.

I've been a member here since 2002 and have participated in many subforums because, well, I love these vehicles in all their forms, as well as participate in the same side pursuits of some of the members here.

The treatment by John D and the IB crew of long-serving, volunteer Mods and the subsequent persecution of those whom have supported them is beyond the pale. Frankly, it's some of the most chicken**** cowardly keyboard-commando crap I've ever seen. I've made many a real-life friend from this board, including several of those impacted in this jack-booted effort of IB and friends. It's both sad and maddening to know this place is circling the drain because of this "woke," garbage cancel culture BS.

And then to top this off with banning some of the most prodigious, generous, and technically competent contributors because they don't agree with your petulant-child woke views? What exactly do you think you will have left to sell to sponsors and advertisers?

Please, can someone comment on my choice of deviated stitching!!!!??? (Once you validate my fashion sense, I'll be gone forever, never to contribute a dime).

A pox on your servers....

Jason

Ugh. I hope they reverse course before they drive all the smart people away, my car isn't finished!

Seriously, this sucks. And it should be easy for them to fix, if they have any desire to do so. I've been a paying member for a few years now, but I see no reason for that to continue if the expertise is going to get banned. Hell, ban OT I don't go there anyway. But as a "woke liberal" (probably...it's all relative! ) it's ridiculous to ban folks in the tech forum for something said in the OT forum-which-has-no-good-reason-to-exist-anyway (just my opinion DON'T BAN ME. Or do, I guess, if everyone else is leaving).

I stand with Roger and Sean and Dave here.

Hmm...

I've run internet forums. It's a f*ing jungle. Everyone is a special snowflake whose opinion and behavior is above reproach. I'd rather go to war than run an internet forum; war is far less stressful.

Rennlist is a business, and the goal is to make a forum that will offend the absolute fewest people. That's how businesses work; I don't know how that surprises anyone. As Ed pointed out, Pelican is poorly moderated and, as a result, poorly visited. But, I agree that banning someone for behavior in an OT forum is... Well, dumb. Why designate an area for bad behavior and then punish someone here for behaving badly there? Deal with the bad behavior in each area as it occurs and within the context of what 'bad' is in that area.

I don't go to the OT forum. I have enough shenanigans in my life without going out of my way to watch grown adults act like 5 year-olds. I also recently dropped from a FB group because I found the behavior of the members intolerable. I didn't kick up a fuss, I just pinged the group owner and said, "Hey, I think that exchange was over the top, so I'm out." But that's me; I'm not a drama queen, and I'm happy to allow people their own silly opinions.

The value of this forum isn't just in the ongoing community and support, it's the tens of THOUSANDS of threads going back decades with untold wisdom and experience. Everything anyone needs to know about the 928 is here somewhere. I never have a problem of not being able to find a previous occurrence of my issue; the problem is generally that I find too many occurrences of my issue. This is an irreplaceable resource and losing it would to the 928 community be the equivalent of the burning of the library of Alexandria.

I sincerely hope we can come to some sort of accommodation between I.B.'s rules and needs, and the personalities and needs of the community.

I have no idea what this is about... BUT!... if Roger or Sean ask a question they should be given an answer. They have always answered my questions.

It's not our intellectual property to move:

I never saw the thread, I don't know who IB is but,
Banning with no explanation , in an unrelated forum is unwarranted.
I also support this.
No reason to ban these members. If you want to do something, take down the forum that begs for the disagreements and keep this a technical site.

I fully support this and Roger and Sean. I am a relative newbie to Porsche ownership. Bought it for $5K and like many I am $15K in maintenance away from having a car worth $13K. The only reason I have had a positive experience is due to RL. If it weren't for the experts, like Sean, who offer their advice and guidance, it would be extremely difficult to keep my car on the road.
This is a technical forum, so why is there an OT area? If I want to look at some hot chicks I will not waste too much time with the IHI thread and go see more on any **** site. P&C why have it in the first place, you're asking for trouble?

Default Reason for joining

Rogers opinions are spot on...Truly one of the reasons why I switched from 944T to 2 928’s now... Because of the great wealth of knowledge and the awesome willingness to help idiots like me learn and grow as a 928 owner.

Just caught up.
Needless to say I am also a supporter of Roger, Sean and all the gearheads here.
I do not visit the OT and Political forums.
I could not keep my car running without these members.
