Happy Birthday to Capt Earl
Please join me in wishing my friend and almost neighbor - Capt Earl - a happy birthday. I won't totally disclose which one this is, but I'll give a hint. The first digit is: vier multipiizieren bei zwei.
Happy Birthday Earl, and many more we hope.
Cheers,
Gary

Happy birthday Earl!
I think of you and wonder how you are doing every time I work on, or drive my 928! I remember when you did a bunch of work, on short notice I should add, on my '88 S4 right before I drove it 4,000 miles from NJ back home to Seattle back in 2006. Thank you again for taking such good care of my 928. You will be happy to know it is running great in 2020.
From the way back machine, January 2006 at Earl's. We did, ok, Earl did, a ton of work over the course of two days on that car.
Running errands in September :
I remember when you were working on my S4, you showed me the brake pads, almost worn to nothing. I got very concerned, I had 4,000 miles to go, it was the weekend. I wasn't going to be getting brake pads any time soon. You told me to relax, that I had at least one or two good emergency stops in those pads, and that I'd be on the highway the whole time. You advised me to just take it easy on the brakes during the ride home and that I would be fine. Crisis averted! Lol. Drove it home, all was fine with the brakes. Of course. Valuable lesson learned there, think it through before you get worked up.
I hope you are well and enjoying life back east Earl.

Thank you Gary. If I decode your German correctly it is 85 which I find hard to believe. I am starting to show. I find it difficult to work on cars due to having Lyme disease in my legs and feet. Working on 928s has been fun. The 928 group is a fabulous bunch of guys.

Good to know you are still aiive and well- wishing you many happy returns and many more of such.
Hard to believe it is over 21 years since we resolved the flexplate clamp issue when there were no other alternatives and Porsche could not come up with anything other than to replace the pinch bolt and over torque it by 10% only for that not to work some two weeks later. As I recall my 90S4 was the second 928 in the world to have the Loctite procedure applied to it - the first being the one you did the day before [your S4?]. The Loctite 290 is still holding my flexplate clamp. The first iteration lasted 5 years until I lost the S4 in a big smash caused by some clown on a mobile phone. The second iteration is now some 15 years old and still going strong.
In terms of "bang for the buck" a few cents for a few drops of Loctite 290 versus a new engine just has to be unbeatable value.
Regards
Fred
