Default 928 Club sport Cup development car

Hi All
As some of you may already know, after many challenges I have purchased one of the rarest 928’s, a genuine red 928 Clubsport which was used by Porsche as the development car for racing in the 928 Cup races and for testing & producing the 928 motorsport parts at the factory. Samuel in France assisted me in contacting the previous owner and after research and info from various sources, the summary so far:

The car in addition to being one of only 17 CS’s built, is one of a kind with some very unique features including a one-off close ratio motorsport gearbox from the factory, and an extensive racing history in Germany and Europe, competing successfully at such circuits as Hockenheim, Nurburgring, Monza and Zandvoort. It is also the only race 928 32valve car I know of with a full FIA homologation certificate.
Despite only having done 46k miles it is in need of some serious TLC. The car will be restored to its original 928 Cup spec including blueprinted CS Cup engine.
Photo below of its trip to the U.K.

More updates to follow in the New Year.

Regards
Adrian

Thanks Emil. I’m currently discussing with Porsche Motorsport about the gearbox and how to source replacement components. The ratios should be awesome for racing as it has a 3.09 final drive and difference rations/ lay shaft which means top speed will be lower at around 163mph, but for U.K. circuits this is not an issue. Also has a special LSD which I’ll be looking at shortly on what modifications were done.

I already told you, but I'm looking forward to seeing this old warrior in great shape again.
The last time, it was in 1999!

Awesome, can't wait to hear all the details on the special pieces. Is that a little lip spoiler at the bottom of the hatch glass?

Hi Rob, yes although this was done by the German race team rather than Porsche I believe. It has also had extended brake and clutch pedals and extended steering wheel fitted to move the drivers weight back to the rear as much as possible.

This is what the car looked like around 1996 when racing:

Terrific find!
And great that you plan on doing a complete restoration.

Let's hope the "Christine" on the rear bumper is a reference to a girlfriend and not a reference to the Plymouth Fury in the novel by Stephen King and the movie done in 1983!

thanks Greg... not sure about “Christine”, but certainly wasn’t a Porsche motorsport option and she will be removed from the rear bumper shortly!

You might want to watch the movie, to understand what the reference might be from.
And perhaps start the restoration with a priest....
Couldn't hurt.

I'd love to see what Porsche did wrt the oiling. Knowing the 2/6 oiling issues on track driven cars, I think they would have had to do something to make the engine survive that many years.
Cool find and look forward to the resurrection!
