Need Help diagnose rattling noise when idling Auto
Hi guys,
In need your help to diagnose what's causing a rattling noise when idling on my 1986 Euro S2 AUTO. As soon as I I select the DRIVE position, the noise stop.
Here is a link to a short video :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPew...ature=youtu.be
Any idea ?
Thanks for your help !
Olivier

Maybe this, it’s fairly common apparently but yours sounds more like a grinding noise to me.

Torque tube bearings perhaps, or when was the crank end play last checked?

remove the lower bell housing,
look for a migrating front torque tube bearing,
also check the crank end play ,
your car is susceptible to this issue.
Make sure the rear pinch bolt at the transaxle is removed and inspected,
then torqued to 66 ft/lb add a drop of blue loctite to the bolt threads
Also check the motor mounts and trans mounts,
and the exhaust hitting the heat shields will be the result of collapsed mounts

Check your flex plate. One of the three mounting points may be broken off, with the raw edges rubbing against each other.

Torque tube bearings. Mine sounded the same. The sound went away under load, and returned when off-load and at every shutdown.
