Momo Prototipo Steering wheel thoughts.
Firstly is anyone using one of these wheels. Are they too old school on a 928. Also would a 964 Boss kit be compatible with our cars. Are there any preferred sizes (depth) for a 928.
Thanks
Greg

First off, style or appearance is a very personal choice.
A steering wheel is so easily reversible that I wouldn't have any issues with any one that somebody wanted to use. Wheels (rims) are in the same category.
I don't think the 964 adapter will work. The steering shaft setup on the 928 is unique, I think (as always, I could be wrong & welcome correction if so).

I put a Momo wheel in my GTS, however a different model. I thought it much better matched the car and the times.

I installed a Momo Mod 07 steering wheel in my '88 S4 and loved it. Its a similar look to the wheel the OP posted, but has a deeper 72 mm dish. I installed it in order to get the steering wheel closer to me since I'm very tall and I have the seat back reclined pretty far, making it an uncomfortable reach to the steering wheel.
The Mod 07 solved the reach issue, and as an added bonus, the smaller 350 mm diameter quickened up the steering feel, it was like night and day. I always felt like the stock 928 steering wheel is like a bus steering wheel, huge. I came to love the 350 mm wheel.
I wasn't as concerned about looks. I thought it looked ok, not great, not terrible.
The only negative I would note is the dished wheel puts your hands/fingers farther away from the turn signal stalk, so you have to consciously hold your fingers out to reach the turn signal stalk until it becomes automatic. I actually came to like it that way, when I put the stock steering wheel back on, my fingers felt to close to the stalk and it felt like I was hitting the stalk from time to time. A minor issue either way for sure.
Crappy picture, but you get the idea:

By the way what is that seat you are running? Did it bolt to factory holes or did it need modified rails. I assume it sits you lower. If I ever want to do a track day I will need something that puts me lower to fit a helmet on.
Thanks for the help.

Actually good thought regards getting the wheel closer. I too sit back a bit for head room. Might be a smarter option. That look seems ok to me. I think I worked out the adapter with the above wheel, its a package wont suit. I believe the Boss kit needs to be a Momo 7005 for the 928. I didnt know if there were different length ones as some times its important to keep the wheel in its original position. With the exception of your case.

I also loved the fixed back racing seat, it was another modification that transformed the car's feel, you feel much more connected to the car. With the smaller diameter steering wheel and the racing seat, it felt like a different car, I loved it.
The fixed back seat became a hassle for daily driving, so I next tried a race seat style seat with a reclining back (like below), it wasn't much better then stock.
Next I tried a 944 manual seat, that was a little better then stock, but I didn't like the look, and it wasn't as adjustable as stock. The 944 seat was perfect while I was working on my S4 this summer/fall. I was covered in grease at times, so I didn't have to worry about staining the seat or tearing it up with tools in my pockets, Lol.

I tried a few different wheels in my 928. The look and diameter of the current Luisi is my favorite and what I'm sticking with. Interestingly enough, the 81 I just bough has a similar Luisi wheel in it.
First was a Momo Jet, then a RUF Club Sport, then the Luisi.

The Prototipo and Mod 07 both look fantastic, IMO.
I have the Monte Carlo in my S4 and really like it.

Hi Ed.
Any chance in your own time, could you measure the total depth of the wheel including the Boss kit. I guess to the very front surface of where you grip. Drivers side. Basically so I can run a tape measure on mine and get a sense of where the wheel will sit. And do you know the number of the Boss kit. Or if not the actual depth of the Boss.
Thanks. It will be very helpful in my decision making.

Sorry for the buzz kill, but I gotta do the public service announcement by referencing this thread (warns of dangers in our old cars when including wood rimmed or exposed metal spoked steering wheels):

For the record, I love these old steering wheels and other classic car parts such as cool ***** and buttons. But if you consider the 928 interior, it seems to have a lot of "soft pieces" and I can't help but believe they are for safety.

And if by Boss, you mean the steering wheel to steering column adapter, the adapter that I used was ordered from Momo at the same time that I ordered the Mod 07 wheel:

This is the wheel I had on a previous car and I loved it.
They are quite 'flat'. I don't think Porsche liked the use of their logo on the horn button but I manage to find one for my current Momo wheel.
It will fit the 'paddle shifter' from PCS perfectly as well.
I have a 911 Momo hub and that doesn't fit the 928.
Current project wheel
