This seems really weird. Only good experiences with RichVM. Honest dealing, and always generous and very helpful. Really surprised to see this.

The judgement amount does look like that much relative to typical 928 values, unless there is something missing, so not sure why all those cars would be auctioned.

As a question that is genuine curiosity, did you ever hear the 'bad stuff' about Rich?

Did you ever hear rumors that he had ripped off or conned people?

I'm 900 miles away and have had ZERO contact with him.
But the stuff I've seen & 'heard' in various places made me very wary of him.
Not that I would never have done any business with him, but if I had, it would have been done very carefully, with lots of protection.

I wish that were true. But, I hear that a car that was being restored was sold to somebody else.

Words escape me when I think that anybody in our 928 community could do that. I'm with Boomboom now.

I've known RVM from the moment he started selling parts off my first parts car and I never thought he was capable of this. Sadness.

How can that possibly happen? If I have car titled in my name and I give it to a shop to restore that shop can not sell a car that they do not have titled in their name. That’s grand left auto. Also are there not any contracts or paperwork for the agreed restorations?

The only way I see this happening is if someone gives a shop a car to restore and that car is not in their name for whatever reason, and also that person agrees to the restoration but does it on a handshake only?

I’m not saying there is not any wrong doing here. In the end I have no first hand knowledge from any side.

I just can not understand the how. Even without any contracts there would be emails, pictures etc. There has to be a paper trail.

This is pretty convoluted. The car's title was held by a third party until RVM paid for it. RVM kept stringing the soon to be new owner along. Once RVM paid for it he got an open title.

He then sold it to somebody else.

We can spend a lot of time about buyer beware, but I am astonished that RVM took money from one party and sold it to another.

As for the paper trail, it exists and is now in the hands of the authorities.

So are all the cars themselves accounted for? Or are some physically “missing” ? Every time I read this thread I’m hearing the final jeopardy music in my head.

Maybe these are some of the missing cars?

A non-928 owner posted this picture in the photo thread yesterday. Said he saw these cars when he was driving around locally. His avatar says he's from Cumming, GA which is the town where the auction was to be held.

Funny - I had the same exact thought after seeing his user name, or maybe that's the lot the Police were using for all the auction cars for the auction that never happened. Scott Martin (RS Martin) would probably recognize the cars or the lot since he saw them in person.

I took the photo this morning. That makes sense. RSMartin messaged me already and asked where this was, and I responded, so perhaps he’ll be going to have a look. Yes, Cumming, GA in a random lot behind a building.

BTW, many of those cars appeared unlikely runners from what I could see from the street, and this lot is probably five miles from where that auction was to be held, but maybe they’ve all been relocated over the weeks since.

I hear that these are not the cars the sheriff was going to auction. My source says Richard Van Meeteren has another group of cars from victimized customers, that he has stored for years out in the open on a farm like setting where his girlfriend used to keep her horses in some stables. My source says these look like those cars. It really is sad. BTW, Richard Van Meeteren was bailed out of the Forsythe County Jail last Saturday and a plea bargain or trial is pending for yet another one of his alleged untoward dealings with a former 928 owner. The charge is felony by theft.

You can say there's nothing to see here, but we all see it.
