Something conspicuous is missing...
People!
Winter has a way of driving them south so only the hardy souls remain... Or the reclusive and recalcitrant... Or skiers, or ice water surfers...

Scored some goodies for the Car Cave yesterday.
Dirty but in good overall condition as these types of signs are fragile and most have been disposed of.
I'll clean them up and take appropriate preservation steps like washing & ultra fine blocking/sanding the discoloration off of the surfaces. Then, clear coating them with the original type of UV protective material at my.local body shop.
Also plan on backlighting these beauties to compliment the porcelain collection - when I put it up.
Not 100% certain that I can handle the kaleidoscope of visual distractions, I like the large expanses of clean wall space but really dislike the reflected noise levels. First world dilemma...
Enjoy!

Another project coming to fruition... 1967 VW 23 window Samba - Safari - DeLuxe with the sunroof and split seat...
This lil beauty is now in the container and on its way to the states. The VW factory restoration facility finally gave it the stamp of approval and the customs shipping paperwork was completed. It went into the container on May 23rd and should clear customs on July 20th. I sure hope it is as good as they say it is... When I look at the interior I think a trip to Brian will be on my agenda to straighten out some of the piping. Some of the photos I have seen just do not look right but I dare not complain lest the thing never gets finished. So, it is a bit over three years to get it to this stage and a few original parts have not been sourced even after years of trying. Small disappointments in the scheme of what I've gone through in the past few years. Oh yeah, hubcaps are NOS in boxes and I have a set of 5 Fuchs just in case I want her gussied up.
Below is the last sighting of the VW on its way into the bowels of the containerization, fumigation, shipping and customs world. Hoping against hope that she arrives as purty as it leaves.
Should look good in the CarCave...
Lovin my old silver 911/964 these days. I've already put 2,216 miles on her and can get back to tidying up some loose ends on the 928's. Getting that car back after selling her 22 years ago was quite the treat...

True that!
Added a ping pong table and an air hockey table plus a few old school slot machines.... Stacking cars and buying the appropriate forklift will be the test of my personal fortitude in not getting more inventory.

Build an extension? Funny you mention that. How about a whole community of them! It has taken a bit of work but we are now building 20 new buildings that are designed to be one or two units. Just about to break ground on the third building which will be 60 x 80. The previous developer was a problem child with not the best organizational skills so he ran into trouble with the zoning folks and his neighbors. Long story short, there will be lots of activity all around the Car Cave and some rather well known tenants in the buildings.
So this thread has some life ahead of it...
Work hard - - - Play harder!

Already have sold a few units to rather well known collectors...
There will be a superb Ferrari collection in one of the new units, a British car museum in my old big building, and lots of other interesting things going on.
Just when I think I'm retiring and getting some more time to play - I jump into this...
Buildings can be Post and Beam or ICF like mine and will have 16' walls with heated floors. Not clear spans but they will have Mezzanines and lots of options available including translucent quartzite walls into offices or bars...
Use your imagination! We can and will do it!
I'm working on a wall of Patron Tequila bottles cemented together and backlit!

We did try that but county and zoning officials shut it down hard. That was about a decade ago Ended up donating the land to the conservancy with exceptionally difficult covenants to break and took it out of the tax base.
They will never get another tax dollar from that land! Sometimes government shoots itself in the foot!

Dave, thank you for allowing Angie and I to be some of the first people to enjoy the very cool space you have created, and continue to create. Wonderful place, and wonderful plans you have. Michigan is lucky to have you as a resident!
We had a GREAT time!!!
