Need 85 fuel gauge diagram

Need 85 fuel gauge diagram
I need a fuel gauge diagram of a 1985 928 because the fuel gauge isn't working at all. I may have tried to put 12v to the fuel sender because I thought it was the fuel pump. I am able to get a reading of 78Ohms between the two pins. I didn't try to measure voltage as I didn't know it sent 5v to the fuel sender. I will get the car to my home in May because that's the earliest time the DMV will let me register the car. So for now the car is far away from me.

So I got to the car today and tested the fuel sender with a multi-meter and found 14v with the yellow wire, probably because the car was running, and 4.2v from the purple wire. The brown wire was the ground. Are these readings normal?

Get a piece of wire and short the purple pin to the brown one with the ignition on, if you see the fuel gauge jump from 0 to full then it’s your sender that’s the problem. Also if you short the brown to the yellow then the low fuel light should come on.
It’s a 5 minute job to pull it out and you can then take the cover off and see what the issue is.

The easy fault is that the brown wire isnt grounded so you could try grounding the purple wire to the car body directly, if the gauge still doesnt move then it could be a bad connection at the central panel, behind the pod, the gauge itself or a broken wire.
You can get the wiring diagram from here, if you follow the connection from the sensor to the gauge there’s not much along the way.

If you don’t have time to dig deep you could try adjusting the steering/pod up and down, you might get lucky and shake a bad connection into working.

I finally got the car home and this is the problem I have with the gauges. A lot of light bulbs aren't working which I assume I can fix by replacing them, but the problem is the gauges not working. It's not just the fuel, and I swear I saw the temp gauge working before. Any ideas of what I should look at to be the cause of this? At least the speedo and tachometer work, so I got that going for me.

Time to take out the cluster then. I'll be back.

I have a complete instrument cluster out of my wrecked 85. Everything on it worked accept one or 2 of the gear position lights. My mileage was a little higher than your at 238K but I suspect your ODO isn't working as your trip meter is stuck at 0000. I would guess you've got some bad, loose or corroded connections on the back of your cluster, but if you exhaust your resources on getting yours to work and are interested in mine let me know.

I took it apart and I can see a few problems of why this didn't work. The connections look corroded that would plug into the wire harness, so that's probably why there's no communication. The threads where the nuts go that would go to the gauges that didn't work are completely rusted. I also found out why my odometer wouldn't increase in miles since the gear for it I found in pieces. What little pieces I found would crumble in my hands. So hopefully I can find a replacement gear and order some LEDs because I hate incandescent light bulbs. I'm gonna polish the contacts with my dremel and polishing compound. Anyone know where I can find a replacement gear?

Also, does anyone know the polarity of these bulbs? I want to put LEDs in and you can see Drive and Park are totally burnt. Which pin is positive and which is negative for each bulb?
