Default Does anyone know this car? 1980 928

So I recently purchased this car site unseen, it got here yesterday and I was surprised at what I got. Apparently the car had undergone a complete restoration, windows out paint job, etc. Here's what I found:
  1. new glass out paint job, color change from silver to weinrot, jams, sills, etc painted correctly.
  2. all new door seals, etc
  3. mechanically freshened, water pump, timing belt, misc. underhood goodies, new radiator, new slotted rotors pads etc.
  4. what appears to be a stock muffler but with a bad *** sound, perhaps a resonator bypassed, I haven't had it on a lift yet
  5. tastefully installed front spoiler that was installed without cutting up the front bumper for brake ducts that aren't there.
  6. h4 headlights
  7. complete interior swap from an S4, interior in very, very good condition, no cracks on the dash or pod.
  8. love it or hate it three piece wheels that fit the car perfectly with new bridgestones.
  9. etc, etc
I've already gotten phone dials being restored and intend on taking the front spoiler off, otherwise the car needs some odds and ends typical of a 41 year old 928 taken care of.

I have some questions that I'd like to get answered but cannot find any information about the owner before the guy I got it from. Judging from the kind of work that was done on the car, there is no way who ever put it together isn't here on rennlist somewhere. Anyone have any ideas? All I've been able to find online is this old ad that's dead:

https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...MygtegUIARCXAg

Anyone have any ideas? Any leads would be greatly appreciated!!

Great looking car. I don't believe the larger H4 headlights have chrome trim rings around them.

H4s should look like these unless there's a Euro version and a US version of H4s.

Maybe run a carfax on the VIN, which will tell you at least where and how many times the car has been registered.

I just installed refinished 16" phonedials on mine too. Powdercoated pearl white centers and polished lips.

Nice car!
Essentially what I did last month- bought my 79 unseen and found similar good surprises...I have the tele's to install as well. Heres a very quick and rough mock up to show whats on now and what will be soon.

Very nice looking car. The Front Spoiler and the wheels are for my taste good.

Im basically decided to remove the spoilers and put the teles back on.... something to me about adding pieces that dont belong originally that is irksome. Can you explain how you feel about the added spoilers to pre 198(x) cars?

Default Your 928

If you post the VIN, I can see how close together yours and mine were back in Zuffenhausen.

There is a 7" H4, and you can still get them new at reasonable prices.

There was never a 7" H4 option on the cars. Factory H4 cars came with the 8" version. When the cars were first introduced, the US was still clinging to the idea that all headlights needed to be sealed-beams, so Porsche was forced to fit 7" US-standard sealed-beams to US cars, and they fitted that **distinctive-on-the-car chrome trim ring to fill out the holes in the fenders. There were retrofit 7" H4 assemblies available from manufacturers, as this car shows, but they were technically illegal here. Even without passing the visual inspection, the E-code Euro lamps lack the little aiming ****, and the flat-topped beam pattern wasn't close to the dim candle-lit yellow-blob that was the DOT standard at the time. Highway speed limits were still max 55MPH, so driving with the optical equivalent of white-tipped canes was "acceptable". Fog lights were also replaced with the equivalent of parking/marker lights on the US cars too.

**Why the distinctive-on-the-car description? The 928 was devoid of chrome accents except for certain early years when the door lock surrounds were chromed.
