Default 928 Frenzy Tech Session Ideas

Currently soliciting tech session suggestions for the Frenzy main event on Sat. 9/25/2021.

If you have a good idea, please post it.

If you are attending Frenzy and your car has a specific issue that needs to be diagnosed/repaired, and you think doing so will be helpful to others, let's hear it.

1. How to check Alternator performance. Demonstrate importance of checking voltage at the back of the alternator and also checking for potential differences at the battery and jump post. To effectly diagnose charging issue as alternator or Harness / Cable related
14$ cell phone charger with digital volt meter is a handy tool for logging charging issues or benchmarking the dash guage.

2. How to check where the jump post cable transverses the body to prevent melt downs.

3. How to properly check for cracks and age related issue with fuel lines. To prevent fires.

4. How to check and test Weisach bushing

5. How to add one touch controller with relays for the windows. And wired so one never has to replace switches again. (using DEI 535T)

6. How to properly lube and maintain the sunroof.

7. How to properly check front upper control arm bushes.

8. How to check head lamp bushing at motion arm so it doesn't puncture radiator.

9. Maybe some one could bring corner balance scales.

  1. How to do motor mount replacement with engine in the car
  2. Fix non-operable sunroof (motor spins - roof is jammed shut)

If you need a subject vehicle for either of these, my 81 Euro S that I'll have there has both issues. I can purchase sunroof track parts or motor mounts in advance if we'll be doing that.

A few ideas:

1. Freon check/charge. How to vacuum down a system, fill it, and check the pressures properly.

2. Smoke test the intake for vacuum leaks.

3. How to build AN lines. This is something most people can get some hands on experience with at the event, putting screw on connectors on lines. Explain the differences in linings (PTFE for fuel, etc), AN sizes vis-a-vis metric/SAE sizes, adapter sizes needed for fuel connections and sources.

4. Alignment check/set.

5. Super damper installation.

6. Fuel pump/filter replacement and jumping the fuel pump at the CE panel.

7. Replacement of manual shifter coupling at rear near transmission.

8. HVAC function check. How to test the flap positions and determine if an actuator is leaking. How to test the vacuum solenoids. Replacing the blower resistor pack.

9. Parking brake adjustment.

Default Tech session idea

Wipers in-op after trip to PA. The linkage moves, the wipers, not so much!

I’ll second (third?) the posters above who’ve suggested sunroof as a topic of interest.

These are some excellent suggestions, guys! You'd think after doing this for 25 years the tech issues might be getting a bit old. But, no, these cars have a way of always keeping us busy with different stuff to do!

I could bring red 84 5 speed. We could time how fast it can be completely disassembled to nuts a bolts and panels and parts. Whole group participation project.

That's an interesting idea, actually. Just leave it on a trailer with a selection of tools and people can contribute by pulling off parts when the mood strikes them.

It will also be interesting to see how the quality of the disassembly evolves as the night goes on!

I think it's been done in the recent past but I would appreciate guidance I can watch on how to adjust the automatic transmission, both the mechanical and vacuum parts.

Cheers

How to buy a Porsche 928 for $10,000
Spend $20,000 restoring it and
Ending up with an $8,000 car. But enjoying the journey.

Most of us already know how to do this, some of us spending considerably more than $20k
