A very special 928 on BAT
@Nicole has decided to sell her 928:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...sche-928-s4-3/
I've always wanted her 928, but sadly the timing wasn't right when she contacted me to buy it before going on the auction block.
Someone is going to get a very nice S4, one of the nicest ones around.
Maybe this thread can be a nice sendoff to one of the "old guards" of the 928 community. Knowing she will no longer be part of the community as a 928 owner hurts more than missing out on the chance to own this shark. Over the years she would casually talk about selling it and I would do my best to convince her to keep it.

Thanks, all, for the nice comments!
Yes, I have decided to pass my baby to the next caretaker (Can you still call it a "baby" after 21 years???). However, this does not mean I no longer love 928s.
How could I not? This has been my teenage dream; I worked my butt off to get this car, and have spared no expense to keep everything working. However, a lot has changed in my life in recent years, and it no longer gets the attention it deserves. It is too beautiful, to unique, too much fun to sit and wait to stretch its legs.
It all started with a job that made me travel around the country so much that I spent fewer weekends at home than on the road. This was the reason why I had to close Hooked on Cars - I just wasn't home enough to pack and ship products, and got constantly bombarded with nasty "where are my products" messages... This just added to the stress.
Eventually, I burned myself out and it severely affected my health - particularly my lungs. So, in 2018, I bought a run-down condo near a beautiful beach in Southern California. With the help of @Ron_H, I redesigned it to modern standards and had it rebuilt from the studs up. It was an enormous 7-month effort where I learned important lessons about bureaucracy. Since then, I refer to the local building department as "Construction Prevention Agency"...
But in the end, it was well worth the effort: The renovation was recognized by the Modern Architecture and Design Society and became an exhibit on one if their modern home tours. Now I split my time between my house and the condo, where I can breathe clean ocean air, walk or ride my bike along the beach, and watch beautiful sunsets. And when I'm not there, the condo is available for rent on Airbnb through a local management company.
Before: claustrophobic kitchen, asbestos popcorn ceiling, outdated electrical with built-in fire risk, everything worn-out...
After: Open floor plan, bold colors, a modern "beachy" vibe.
Between taking care of my home in Northern California, the condo and my fulltime job, there just hasn't been enough time for my beloved 928. So I asked HiTec Auto to go through the car and handle the transaction. I absolutely love the pictures they took and hope it will encourage a real enthusiast to become the next caretaker.
Will I disappear when the car is sold? No, I'm still around and will check-in periodically. I'm going through my vast collection of 928 memorabilia, and will offer some of it for sale in the future - probably starting with the scale model kits. Stay tuned...
And I hope to stay connected with my wonderful local friends at norcal928 - Thanks, Mark, for continuing to accept me as a participant.
To the rennlist community, I say a BIG THANK YOU for all the help, camaraderie, purchases from my store, and the friendships that have formed from this message board. You can continue to reach out to me through DM from here.
Best of luck, and keep those beautiful sharks running!!!

Sorry to see you go from the 928 ownership, Nicole. Such a great looking and maintained 928 S4 you are offering up: a total and utter steal at the current bid price (12K5 USD$) - so hopefully it will fetch a lot more than that!

The 78 that recently sold is a good example:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1978-porsche-928-36/
The morning the auction was scheduled to end the high bid was $51,000. As the auction reached the end time, 20 more bids were made bringing a final hammer price of $102,000. It's typical for folks to wait until the last final seconds to put in a higher bid.
Scrolling to the bottom of the auction is the conversation thread about the car with all the bidding history.
It's very addictive to pull up all the live auctions and sort by "ending soonest" and watch all the bidding frenzies:

Thank you for the heads-up, hacker, and great idea for this thread.
Added my 928 cents to the auction. That is a very nice looking 928!
Best wishes, @Nicole . I have appreciated your professionalism and respectfulness in all of our interactions. You have made great contributions to this 928 community and I hope you know that you will always be welcomed by many of us here. Godspeed on your continuing journey!

Three Wheelin'
Nicole is only selling her car, she does not want to leave the community. Her choice to sell was a very tough one, and I know she will miss it, but she knows that the car will be better served if its used more that she can use it.
She will always be a member of Norcal 928 and is welcome at any future 928 gathering, or in my passenger seat if im ridding solo (wife gets dibs).

Oh the pain...!
What a shock! Where can I see the auction and details?? But life has its priorities doesn't it? I once had a nice ski boat which I kept at my home on the ocean in Hawaii, but ended up so busy with work I never used the boat and ended up selling it for a ridiculous price after the motor froze up from lack of use. I still miss that boat and the fun everyone had with it. But I loved my job more. I fully understand Nicole's situation and the pain of parting with a revered object because of more important issues.

Nicole,
My wife and I were fortunate to meet you at the 928 OCIC in Denver, and at the Gmund exhibit on that Sunday (we had a black '94 GTS at the time). I told her yesterday that you were selling your car, and she said 'it must have been a tough decision for her', and your post above indicates it WAS, but is probably the right decision for the you and your beloved 928.
We wish you the best for the sale of the outstanding car, and your future projects.

Nicole,
Happy to hear you have things going well for you. Love what you did to the condo; very tasteful and classy. Best of luck on your adventures… and of course you are part of the 928 community like many here - true enthusiasts.
