Erkka -

Should those VINs start with WP0JB insead of WPOAB???

If so, the correct VINs would be WP0JB0922JS865061 and WP0JB0924JS865062. I've tried them on CarFax and a couple other services, and none of them have any info on those VINs.

My GT has brown marked springs also. So I tend to believe that there are two types of '90-'91 GTs out there......those with 474 "sport shocks" and those without........same springs are used though.

Somebody check their S4 of the same vintage and see what color code your springs are.

On the downside though.........have you seen the price of the replacements for the sport shocks? Something like $200 - $250 each!!!

I do like the feel of the GT with sport shocks though......very nice and solid.

Actually driven quite a few GTSs with manual tranny and will tell you that the GTS is an awesome machine with both good and bad points compared to a GT.

The GTS is a softer car compered with the GT and often did not come with sport shocks........so you have more of an S4 suspension then a GT suspension, but factor in the lower profile/wider tires and handling is probably close. The GT seems to be more of an "on edge" car while the GTS seems a little calmer. The GTS is a faster car, but not by a large margin. Brings up the debate whether the premium for a good GTS is worth it over a good GT, same as the 5 speed S4 vs. GT debate. Each is an upgrade, but not by a huge amount.......IMO.......

The only thing option 474 gets you (at least for the S4 years and above) are "red" Boge shocks. Stiffer valving is the only difference I believe.

I'm pretty sure all 928 VIN's should start with WPO as in West-Germany POrsche, not WP0. Porsches own 928 tech spec books use 0 instead of O in one of them at least but think it should be O. As of 4 to 6, not so sure but Austen gives them as AA2 all the way up to '95. There's at least one VIN mentioned in forum archives with WPOAA2... Please check with that beginning if you have active CarFax account.

Erkka,

When I try WPO I get the error 'The letters "I", "O" and "Q" never appear in a VIN'. And my VIN starts with WP0JB0...

You don't need an active CarFax account to at least find out how many records they have for a particular VIN, just for the details of those records. I can't get CarFax to accept any VIN starting with WP0AA2.

Interesting. It's true that "I", "O" and "Q" shouldn't appear in VIN so yes, it's WP0. But, check this out:

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...hreadid=108019

Check digit is same on both ways as O's math value is 0. Maybe rest of VIN is correct, or maybe not. CarFax can't find WP0AB092xJS865061 but it finds:

VIN: WP0AA0929JS865061
Year/Make/Model: 1988 PORSCHE 924S
Body Style: Coupe
Engine Type: 2.5L L4 FI SOHC 8V
Manufactured In: GERMANY
Search Results: 0 records found in our database
The CARFAX database currently contains no records for this vehicle. Please check back again soon, as our database is continually updated.

VIN: WP0AA0920JS865062
Year/Make/Model: 1988 PORSCHE 924S
Body Style: Coupe
Engine Type: 2.5L L4 FI SOHC 8V
Manufactured In: GERMANY
Search Results: 0 records found in our database
The CARFAX database currently contains no records for this vehicle. Please check back again soon, as our database is continually updated.

It also finds WP0AA0922JS865063, there goes that theory. If there's no records how they can tell they are 924S's? Especially when 7, 8 and 12 is 928. Carfax isn't right and Austen certainly isn't right, mess gets worse all the time.

The only source that's going to give a definitive answer is Porsche IF they'll cooperate.

Thread resurrection!

I have news about these two cars.

WP0JB0922JS865061
Red car
Inside code KS (I suspect flannel cloth black with white stripes)
Equipment:
I158: Reno Radio
I167: Bridgestone tires
I393: CS rims
I441: Radio speakers and antenna amplifier
M474: sport shock absorbers
M481: 5 speed manual transmission
I607: More numerous cables for dashboard
I637: CS

WP0JB0924JS865062
Red car
Inside code XL (grey grau Porsche cloth)
Equipment:
I167: Bridgestone tires
I393: CS rims
M474: sport shock absorbers
M481: 5 speed manual transmission
I637: CS

I also have the engine and gearbox numbers and they are way of of the usual CS range. Both have been produced before the production cars and I suspect they were made for the factory as test cars but never send to the USA.

Ok…. I’ll play having found my “Unicorn” in Germany. 90GT, no air bags, no sun roof, no rear AC, no Side Moldings and Sport seats.

“The only 1990 928 GT delivered in Germany with this equipment:
- M383: Sport seat left (free)
- M387: Sport seat right (free)
- M474: Sport shock absorbers (DM?)
- M567: Top of the windshield green tinted (DM?)
And without M418 (side protections), nor M650 (sunroof).”

She has PSD but is the lightest 90GT made I’m told
