Default 82 LSD in 87 transmission

After some research it seems that there is no correct way to fit a US 82 5 speed limited slip into an 87 US 5 speed transmission due to offset issues. I am just talking about transferring the limited slip portion. Is this correct? If this is the case what is the current ballpark value of an 82 lsd? It worked when removed but should probably be refreshed before installation. Thanks.

That is correct.
The rarest limited slip is the '83-'84 unit, which was only made for those two years.
I believe I have several "late" limited slips, which I would be willing to trade for the '82 if you really want to install one.

I originally got this limited slip when I used to drive the car more aggressively and had thoughts of using the car for DEs. Those plans have changed. Thank you for the offer Greg and clarifying , but I’m just going to leave well enough alone and sell the lsd.

Good choice.
Not many people can tell if they have a limited slip or not..
Stock units (even early ones), make a pretty subtle difference, unless you are in the snow.
