Default Red / Brown 1985 from BAT

I missed the end of this auction, RNM but I still had some room in my budget. Does anyone know this car / seller? I’d like to contact them, this one checks many boxes for me.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-porsche-928s-59/

Thanks,
Tom

I think it is ok, and not worth much more than the final bid. Looking closely at the paint work, it seems pretty dull, almost like a wrap. Depending on the quality of the paint job, a buff might destroy it. Also, the seller said it was brown before the red paint job. From the hatch area and engine bay, it was black, not brown. Seller didn't have a good handle on that. I would want eyes on it before buying it. The seller over sold some obvious issues too, which creates lack of trust.

Lots of maintenance with receipts in the last 3k miles (though over 6 years). Anything specific you'd want to see?

Exterior color and condition of the paint does not matter to me (obviously no rust); anything would likely get painted at some point. This brown interior is what really caught my eye as that's my end goal - nearly impossible to change from black to brown. I hate BAT's restrictions on communicating with the seller. My comments alluding to my interest do not make it through their censors.

Any way, lots of cars for sale outside BAT, I continue to look every day!

I'd want to see the car itself, in person. The interior looks great, but the engine bay does not. I'd look carefully at the fuel lines and power steering lines. There were no underside pictures. I'd want to inspect it on a lift, look at the boots and the other areas where fluids leak or weep. This listing was not a good presentation. It could be a good car, but no way to know without seeing it. Some big nits - the service showed 5 W30 oil - not good (these use 20W50), also, missing strap on air box. Why wasn't that basic item replaced? (getting grit through the air filter can end up in bores causing scoring). Lots of questions, even though lots of maintanence done.

Thanks so much for your insights. I was wowed by the interior and ignored some of the warnings that you've highlighted. I'll continue to watch the auction sites to get an idea of what's out there but will make sure to see some cars in person closer to home.

First thing I also noticed was the passenger front fender does not really match the door? Kind of weird to have a car repainted and then it doesn’t seem to match.

I'll bet in person that paint job is terrible. You can tell.
