I posted a 904 with some other cars earlier in the thread... You are correct the 904 deserves more consideration...

Beautiful car that 904, nice lines. One thing though..; Do any of you know why they did the "cookiebox-lid" line round the whole car? Can you lift/separate the top from the bottom?

That is the only aesthetically challenging thing about the car.

That is what "boxer trim" was made for

Boxer trim being where below the waistline of the car is painted black like the original Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer.

If I had a 904 I would definitely go Boxer trim style.

The chassis was bonded into the fiberglass body for this car and this was made by Heinkel Flugzeugbau. Maybe this line has something to do with this way to produce the body and F.A. Porsche has used this characteristic for the design of the car. He was very proud of his work.

Cobra is basically modified AC Ace which is copy of 1948 166MM Barchetta.

BTW, just saw a 993 Turbo yesterday.
I was invited by a friend (Thanks Don) to see few exceptional cars at one of his friends place.
One of them (the only Porsche) was a 1996 (or 1997? - don't remember) Euro 993 Turbo.
The guy just got the car a month ago. Imported from Europe (France I think).
Silver over Marine Blue interior.
Mint condition.
Gorgeous car...

Not the one but like this.

I've always considered the 911 Turbo as the ultimate iteration of a Porsche road car. I haven't driven any of them before, but a lot of ex-owners I've read about thought they were pretty dull after the boost novelty wears off. And that the NA cars are much better, not faster obviously, but more engaging in sound and feel. That was a bit of a shame to hear but I guess I understand the reasoning. The SC and 3.2 are sweet little cars. Nothing beats an earlier MFI 911 though and the values reflect that today.

Bringing this back from the dead a little bit, there was a new "version" released today, but the original is just fantastic. The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale:

I had to browse this whole thread to make sure one of these wasn't posted already. The Ferrari 250 GTO (?) from upthread looks pretty similar to my eyes, but some of the design elements on the hood are distracting to me, from an aesthetic standpoint (I understand that they're there for a purpose). This car is just pure, flowing goodness.

Cheers

Owning this car for forty years has made it difficult to envision a replacement that would bring as much joy to me as well as anyone who sees it as it truly has universal appeal to both enthusiasts of all ages as well as those who view cars as appliances. When I was offered a boatload of money for it 10 years ago, I gave serious consideration to putting the majority of money in a retirement fund and taking $100k and buying a replacement. That thought led me to driving a wide variety of cars including a Ferrari, Maserati, Lambo Gallardo, BMW 850, Jag F Type,Aston Martin and Porsche 911. It was a lot of fun, but after many sleepness nights and with the help of Don Osborne whom I called for advice and who questioned me without hesitation:"are you done with the car?" Just because someone offers you a lot of money for a car doesn't mean you should take it if you're not done with the car". Mr.' Osbornes' astute observation gave me clarity and I immediately knew I was not going to sell the car. I then made the decision to restore it and the very next day, began to disassemble it.

Knowing this would be a long process (it took 6 years), I knew also that I needed a replacement to drive while the Lambo was down. My driving a variety of cars during the "I'm going to sell it" period resulted in my "getting it" about a Porsche. Nothing drove as well! So a 981 Boxster S came into my life, then a 958 Turbo and just recently the 928GTS.

The 928 got my attention years ago when at a Ferrari/Lamborghini/Maserati event in the Poconos where a surgeon who owned a Lamborghini invited the Lambo owners to his mountain top estate where he had a quonset hut full of a bunch of different cars of all makes. All registered and ready to drive and amongst them were two 928's,an automatic and a stick. When questioned what his favorite care to drive was, he unhesitatingly said it was the 928's. That has evidently registered in my subconscious and today I am a fanboy and owner many years later.
