Default 928 REstomod: Your thoughts

Profiled on the UK website Pistonheads.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/...=2000857&i=100

Personally, it looks utterly minging. They've taken the front end overhang of the Citroen BX4TC and thought "yeah, that'll work". Then stapled the upper rear part of a modern 911 to the back. 924 Turbo bonnet ducts, rear bulges that look like they were made by a 17 year old using bondo and the interior that is the bastard child of a S4 and a 1991 Lexus.

Not sure why they went with shortening the crank to get power, a supercharger would be a better bet IMHO.

For £400,000 odd thousand, I'd get my S4 fully restored, grab a 328, a Vanquish, 5 cats, a new shed and the largest pork pie the world has ever seen.

Sadly, as the PH resident woke lefty, I am serving a temporary ban for getting into a sh*t fight with a racist, so am unable to comment on the thread.

Nardone 928 production kicks off next month | PistonHeads UK

Interesting things in it. Engine and gearbox changes both sound weird. Shorter stroke and still keeping 5L displacement means larger bore block. Why do it like that when walls are too thin as is already? 6th speed is good idea but why do it inside S4 box?

I think the interior is nice, but I don't care for the exterior (I'm an OB guy). If you're going to redo the engine, you might as well put in an LS or make it an EV.

I think the styling misses the mark. Tacked on ground effects diminish the beauty of the original. I’d like to see some artists really try to capture the smooth lines to envision what if Porsche were to bring back the shark.

Doesn't work for me at all. There are individual elements which I start to think might be OK, and then I look at the whole thing for context and...nope.

"I'd get my S4 fully restored, grab a 328, a Vanquish, 5 cats, a new shed and the largest pork pie the world has ever seen."

Same, although 5 cats might be too many. But I'm very interested in this pork pie

1. I want to see the 400hp 5 liter engine, built with stock heads...and I want to see it pass California/USA emission standards.
2. I want to drive the car, with a clutch that can hold 400hp, which is smooth and streetable.
3. I want to see the 6 speed transmission (which, by definition needs skinnier gears to fit inside the 5 speed housing) hold 400hp.
4. And I want to drive the car around corners, to see how the suspension works with the short/stiff sidewalls of the 18" wheels.

I could move to France, with all of my 30 years of 928 development, and couldn't pull this stuff off, successfully, by 2023.
And they are starting with what technology?
Who has this ability?

It's a "pipe dream", right now, in my opinion.
And I'd suggest keeping your wallet closed, until the first car shows up and is tested!

As is 928 tradition, buy 2 of them so you have spares as I’m not sure what the support network will look like.

I agree with all of Greg's remarks. However, if it meets all of the GB check, it comes in the right color combo AND I inherit a boat-load of money, I might be convinced to put it on my list.

Question to all those who don't like the styling, what single car would you choose that comes close to the 928's styling, but with MORE power? The only options I see, in my mind, would be...
1) A two-door, shortened Panamera--not even of Porsche's drawing board...or
2) A Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT--also, very expensive...or
3) A 928 GTS with a blown motor--replaced with a LS-3 (from Renegade) and a T-56 6-speed tranny.

Any other suggestions?

...and buried in all the paperwork once you buy it, will be an envelope full of "Pikes Peak Tested" stickers that they didnt put on that came in the boxes.

80 mm wider in the front?? for what? a bigger windshield washer reservoir? That isn't making any sense. Hope you can make your garage doors wider or you'll wind up scraping the corners of it when you pull in.... I guess I could see the rear wider to keep up with the 400 HP engine power (snicker) . And yes shoving another gear into a gearbox that doesn't need one to me is nothing but marketing (its a 6 speed now!). They have 5 gears because that's all they need. Maybe they are going to build the engine out of tissue paper and it will have a 3,800 rpm redline, like a '77 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme so it'll have torque and can go down the road at 1,800 rpm at 125 mph or something.

I wonder if there is a bigger gas tank too...maybe it will run on vegetable oil...oh wait it'll be electric because it'll be faster oh wait nevermind. The interior makes it look like a toy. Give me some buttons for goodness sake! Stop making me go into 3 submenus to turn on the windshield wipers...oh those are $1,500.00 extra, you aren't supposed to get it wet.....when its dirty you get it dry cleaned.

Anyone for an '80's 300ZX styled oh wait it isn't because the front end looks like it was drawn by someone with a duct fetish...

Yeah it's a model....a 6 speed transmission with no brake or clutch pedal...snap together scale models have the right number of pedals.....seriously they couldn't mock in a clutch and brake pedal???WTF.

"Active Suspension". Licensed by who? Are you "inventing" it in house? That's a garbage buzzword for scam.

Who are they marketing this car to? Are there no rich people in Europe that live near roads that are you know...narrower than ours.

This car is a scam.

Shorter crank, and it is still 5 liter? That suggests that is is actually destroked and then it has to be bored out. I have never heard of that increasing horsepower anywhere including from 316 to 400 as in this case/

I agree this car is BS but several have said the car doesn't need 6 speeds. Wouldn't you like an overdrive for highway cruising? Do I "need" one? No. Would I like to have one? Yeah!
