Default Tool to remove Front Upper A-Arm bolts

This is a replacement for a thread that was deleted by the admins. Just wanted to share the info so that someone searching in the future will find it.

Greg Brown found an easier way to remove the upper A-Arms with the engine in the car.

Use this socket

Gedore 2225972 Socket 1/2" short 22 mm 19 SK

and the Mountain 17mm/19mm long ratchet wrench

Mountain 17x19mm Double Box Universal Spline Reversible Ratcheting Wrench; 90 Tooth Design, Long, Flexible, Reversible; MTNRM1719

The original thread had Greg offering the sockets for sale at $47.50 each. Some people on the list took offense to the price because 3 years after the initial post it could be found for less money.

Others were thankful for the info sharing and purchased the item from Greg. Some of the purchasers shared tales of removing the arms in 20 minutes using this tool combo.

Just be aware that ChadsToolbox has the item listed in their catalog but they don't have it in stock. It's on backorder from Germany. Same for German Tool Truck.

I found another similar tool: Sunex 267313 Tools 1/2 In. Drive 6-point Low Profile Impact Socket W/ Hex Shank,

But be aware this socket has a 22mm head and needs a different long wrench to use it

I couldn't find a Mountain tools version so I got the Gearwrench one.

GEARWRENCH GearBox™ 12 Pt. XL Flex Head Double Box Ratcheting Wrench, 22mm - 86022

This downside of this wrench is that it's not reversible like the Mountain ones are...

We still have these, in both 19m and 22mm.
I was tempted to just toss them in the trash, after being trolled by BigfootStuckInMyMouth and ImCompletelyStupidAmerica..
However, Mary (wife, runs the office) convinced me to just reduce the price, loose some money on each one, instead of just throwing them in the trash.

.....And then never offer anyone any tips on how to do things or what tools work great, ever again,
because, obviously, the free technical help has zero value and is a complete waste of time,
in a world where price trumps everything.

Be sure and thank the trolls....their input about technical stuff and tricks on how to do things, on this Forum, is/has been/will be....well, nonexistent.
Their entire knowledge base about all things 928 would fit on the very tip of my little finger.

Hey Greg. This is on my to list next. Would you get me what I need for a ‘79 and shoot me a message if it’s not too much trouble. I appreciate supporting other folks when I can and making things easier for the novice I am. Lol

What is the big deal I did both sides lying on my back on a creeper with a box end spanner. Sure they were tight , 33 years tight but not difficult.

So did I, for about 45 years....
And suffered through getting a torque wrench up there to torque the nuts to 140nm.

I'm sure that someone can probably do this task with a crescent wrench and a pair of pliers, if they are so inclined.

I just found something to make the job easier and reduce the smashed knuckles and scratches that I'd gotten, over the years, doing this job.
I simply shared what I found, got some of the sockets imported to the US by my German Tool guy, and offered them for sale, at virtually what I paid.

Like everything, in life, if it doesn't apply to someone, they can do it anyway they please.
I'm certainly not holding anyone's feet to the fire.
Just sharing something that worked significantly better, for me.

While never expecting Rennlist to allow trolls to attack me and my good name.

Buy the 17mm x 19mm Mountain wrench from one of the online sellers.
And if you can find someone with inventory, in the US, on the special socket for $25 (plus reasonable shipping), by all means buy it from them.
If you can't find the socket (or if the shipping from Germany raises the cost 100%), I'm got them at a reduced price that was referenced in the first post.

So does Greg, but sometimes it is just easier to buy a tool if someone already makes it.

Greg, I'd like to buy a 19mm & 22mm socket from you. Could they go out today Priority Mail so I have them this weekend. My upper control arms from Roger shipped yesterday. I already have the long ratcheting 19mm wrench set that Sean Ratts recommended a while ago.

Thanks.

You were not trolled. You were simply confronted with the facts and those facts didn't support your narrative. That's why the mods didn't delete any individual posts. I think you are referring to the thread where you threaten to take legal action against me for libel. Here you go again, being petty, name calling, insulting. And exposing yourself for who you really are.

Fact 1. on the origional thread you hid the part number on the tool so you could claim some exclusivity, fine and legal but kind of a questionable tactic for a community you claim to support.

Fact 2. You suggested the tool was "Custom" and suggested it was necessary to do the job, both NOT True.

Fact 3. The job can be done quite easily by anyone who has common hand tools. 1 of the nuts takes patients.

Fact 4. You threaten to take legal action against me for pointing out the facts by suggesting an alternative method / tool that is readily available.

It might actually be helpful to the 928 community to make it known a "custom" tool is not necessary for this job and there is an alternative item, that is readily available that makes the 1 slightly difficulty nut a bit less difficulty. I don't see how promulgating mis-information or false narrative does anyone any good. This has nothing to do with price as you suggest.
