Default Advice/counsel requested - lots of freshly yellow cad plated parts to sell

Hello all, as some of you may know, I have sold my last two 928s (also sold my 968 cab) this past fall. Over the years I have accumulated a ton of nuts/bolts/washers and misc parts for my 928 restoration projects. Throughout the years I have painstaking cleaned and polished all of these parts in a parts tumbler to get them ready to be re-plated. They are indeed yellow cad plated like originally from the factory. According to the shop that did this, yellow cad is much more durable then yellow zinc plating.

I sold my 1990 GT that was in the midst of restoration because frankly, I have just lost interest in working on cars... The opportunity came along to sell the GT to a great guy (who has since become a good friend) in Pittsburgh who is nearly finished putting the car back together. It will look spectacular!

Reason for sharing this is; I am left not only with all of the re-plated parts but, a TON of other 928/968 parts I want to sell. I plan on putting together a separate thread for all the other parts I have. Currently, I have listed many of these "other" parts on Facebook marketplace and also on Sean's 928 Docs FB page. What I'm looking for is some advice about what might be the best most efficient way for me to sell the re-plated parts. It would be a huge PITA to sell this stuff individually with the exception of some of the larger specific parts like the throttle linkages (have 4, yes 4 and they are all re-plated and will have new washers/retaining washers installed from Roger). Would be great to sell it all however, I'm concerned the price I would need to get might preclude me from selling all as a lot.

Would very much appreciate any "constructive" advice on how I might accomplish the sale of these parts.

Here are pics of what I have (the fog light retaining nuts/bolts/washers/clips are for the GT and will be sending them to Pittsburg.

Chuck - I shot you a PM too on some specific parts. For your larger question, perhaps one of our awesome vendors would be interested in your stash or one of the 928 repair/restore shops?

Hi Chuck - could you separate them into complete sets? I've contemplated having my hardware re-plated and having a full set to swap out would be great.

I also did a couple sets of cam bolts/washers.

Complete set (2) - $250 each set + shipping
Partial set (1) - $150 + shipping

Much as I don’t want to do that, I may end up breaking down the parts in to smaller lots. I’d have to get more then I think most would be willing to pay for everything. If I can figure out how to put together specific parts for specific applications. I’d just have to get too much for the lot especially given that I paid $300 to have everything plated.

I don't have a great answer, but what about making a trip of it and showing up at something like Frenzy with your stash of stuff? If you have someone you trust out that way, maybe they could rep the parts for you?

Good luck

What do you have that fits a 16v 84 Euro S? Might be interested in a kit for that.

This would be great for any shop that works on 928s... just bulk purchase.

If I read this right, you paid 300$ to get everything plated, but you want to sell just a set of cam cover hardware for 250$?

It's a really good question, Chuck (And beautiful plating, wish we could get cad like that in SoCal without buying an aerospace company as a front....)

You'll note that neither Mark nor Roger market hardware kits for any particular application, as it just doesn't make financial sense for the time it takes to measure, match, and package everything you'd need, and be confident that it's right. There are so many variations from year to year and even within years given particular option sets. And there's the slippery slope problem that if you're OCD enough to replate and rebuild your throttle quadrant, that you didn't also replace all the hardware nearby will drive one nuts (no pun intended).

As to pricing, it's also a narrow market because of how frickin' expensive the non-standard brackets are. For instance those throttle quadrants- A new one from Porsche is $140 (if they're even available), the three levers are $45 each, and six HK0810 bearings are $50, at least. So that's $325 for new. Figure half if you bought one used from Mark, but then you paid to cad plate it, and spent an hour (at least) pressing the new bushings in and making sure you got the wave washer stack assembled correctly. So those throttle quadrants are easily worth $200 each, particularly if there's no grooving on the shafts.

The suspension eccentrics, the exhaust hangers, the S4 exhaust clamps, those pieces are all $10-40, new. Half that used, but now they're beautifully plated. So more than half.

So it's the trifecta of many pieces being very valuable, very little of it being the perfect pile for a given application, and it being a ton of time and effort to do the sorting to see if you have everything someone needs for a given application. Small needle to thread.

Got any 56/58/61/62 radiator clamps?

That is a little bit high for just the bolts but you do get the washer so its right around retail price when you figure those in.
