For what it's worth, when I ran 8" manholes with the spacers it filled the wheel wells beautifully.

My 86.5 has 21mm as well. But I didn't buy it new so who knows how they got there and I don't have access to a Delorean to solve the mystery.

I installed the 89GT spacers on my 87S4 and 91GT with stock 16” D90s. Those 951 spacers (which came on the 944 turbo - and hence the 951 part number) were only stock install on the CS forged wheels.

Default Did the s4 come with factory rear spacers

My very original 1986.5 does have the rear spacers.

Interesting, because those rears do look like they are filling out the wheel well space.

This specs page from the WSM also seems to say that only the Clubsports (and '89GT) and the GTSs got spacers from the factory.

Since you have spent a thousand hours downloading factory build sheets,
if the S4 vehicles came with spacers, wouldn't there have to be an option code for that?
(How else would the assembly line know to install different rear uprights, with a hub that had longer studs?)

I'm guessing that you would have had to run into this option, by now....

The only spacer- related options in any of the factory literature are:

I415: Widening of the gauge on the track on the rear axle, found on the 84-86 Euro Ss, and
999: On Hans Stuck CS prototype - 17 mm Distanzscheiben hinten, Kegel/tellerrad 11/30, 20 mm gekurzter schalthebel.

The '89GTs got the 17 mm spacers and all the GTSs got the 38 mm spacers, but neither of those are called out as options.

Since there are 5 anecdotes in this thread alone about US market 86.5's having spacers, I have to assume that they were standard starting with 86.5 (and maybe ROW 86.0?) production and not called out with an option number. There are other examples of what we'd consider an option that were just included for all cars of a given model year and market (eg- all 87-88 ROW cars had rubstrips even if M418 is not called out on the options sticker.) So it's possible/likely that all the 86.5 have them as standard. (Begs the question of whether they're called out on the window sticker ?)

But as far as the factory documentation goes there is no option code for 1987-91 S4/GT cars having spacers other than the '89 GT.

Rob - did you miss Option Code PR393? All 42 CS/SE cars came with those spacers. 951 331 611 02. So 88 CS/SE & 89GT
17mm Spacers with Bolts - IIRC came with CS wheels only

Hmm, never heard of PR393, where'd you hear of that?

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see your screengrab. In PET 7 that spacer is for any car that has the M393 Clubsport wheels- so you're right, all the CSs, GTs, and SEs.

The SE cars all have a Z-option, # 08383, that says: Engine, transmission (G28.55) as Clubsport (M637) See construction deviation # B3-0144/7". But 08383 doesn't explicitly mention spacers (though I assume they're part of the Clubsport spec (?) - there's also no mention of spacers on the Clubsport build sheets either.)

Clearly shown in PET - covers the wheel spacers and the extra studs needed. One on my SE was damaged and I had to order one a while back. They are still available $287 list - see PET 501-000 - #38
