Driver Door Whistle Fix?
Hi all. I have a whistle on the driver side door of my ‘79. I’ve narrowed it down to the seal between the body and the door itself. The seal is in great shape, at least by looking at it but the whistle is driving me crazy. I see no obvious defect. Any ideas on a fix? Just to double-check my seal, can someone please post a pic of their seal? It is coming from somewhere on the front 1/3 of the door. Thx

get some DC111 and smear it on the seal,
if its an old seal it will regain its flexibility,
if its a new seal it will stick to the body.

I'll bet that it is the hole under the upper corner of the WS trim where the water off the WS was intended to pass thru into the rain gutter over the door. On just about all the 928s I have looked at there is a short piece of weather stripping glued up into the gap under the WS trim at the upper corners, and I am pretty sure it is factory or at least dealer installed. I think they found that the tiny gap caused a whistle or similar noise..

For me it was that the door frame was slightly bent and reduced compression on the gasket and made it sound like I was driving a tea kettle at 65.
I bent the door frame in a bit and that got rid of the issue. But I'm replacing that door for other issues (full of filler from a bad accident repair).

Took me a long time to get my eind whistle resolved. The only thing that worked was the contoured pieces Jerry Feather makes for the gaps along the side of the windshield trim that have the curved section at the top. So nice to be flying along with only the engine and music sounds now.

Note before you bend the door see the next note.
NOTE also make sure the striker plate is properly adjusted it might need a slight tweek inwards .
NOTE as others have suggested the other whistle area is from the top corners of the windshield trims
I use a 5 inch piece of closed cell black sealing foam 3/8 inch thick and stuff it around the corner thats usually the cure for that noise

if you have original door edge seals you might be ready for new ones

Will do. No bending of my door will be occurring. Lol. During the diagnosis phase, I taped the windshield along the trim piece having read other posts about this issue. No luck. However when I tape the door to frame seam it fixed the problem. I’ll take a look at the striker as well. Thanks for pointing that out.

To localize air leaks try 1" strips of paper - hold one end in place over door edge with door open, close door, see if paper slides out easily or drags. Do whole door jamb in steps.
