Default Cracked clutch pedal

My clutch pedal cracked just below the weld. Over 6 weeks the clutch slowly became less effective and the take up point seemed to be moving. Turns out the crack was growing and allowing the pedal to move sideways. How common is this failure? Do I need to worry about a similar failure in the brake pedal? I have a used pedal on the way so should be back up and running in a week or so.

Happened to my '82 yeas ago. It actually broke in two.
I cut a fork in the end of a piece of aluminum bar stock and formed the whole thing to fit snugly.
When driven into the hollow, the fork pinched together around the pivot boss.
Then I welded both broken piece to the bar through the crack and also welded the bar to the top piece down through the hollow.
Stiffer than original and has held up fine.

Cheers,

Do a search.

Same thing happened to me while I was doing a pre-run for a tour I was leading for the 1st PCA Escape.
Somewhere, on a back country road in the middle of nowhere near the Sonoma/Napa County line, my clutch pedal broke OFF leaving me stranded.
Only time, other than the time I was rear ended and the car was totaled, that my '82 came home on a hook.
There is a solid cast alloy version of the clutch pedal that is a direct replacement for the hollow, rolled sheet aluminum POS that Porsche fitted originally.

I would also suggest that you drop the clutch and regrease everything with hi temp grease Replace any questionable bearings or parts to fully repair the broken pedal

Happened to me twice in my 84. First time the welder just welded the crack. It broke again a few years later. A different welder was more thorough. Repaired the crack and welded in gussets for reinforcement.
