I never met Steve but my mom passed from AML early last yr, so I can imagine the pain and torture Steve endured during his illness. Condolences to his family and friends.
Based on the outpouring from people who knew him, it brings to mind the Porsche saying "It's not the cars, it's the people".

I had seen Steve’s picture so many times on Rennlist that I felt like I met a celebrity when we finally did meet in South Dakota. Great dude and an awesome life – we should all be so lucky.

Steve will be missed. A great guy and a fellow conspirator in whatever craziness we had going on. One of my favorite things about Steve was his propensity to just show up wherever and whenever a GTG was happening. I had seen him previously, but then actually met him at a Third Coast, got to know he and his history while up in South Dakota and then both Rhonda and I hung out with him a couple years ago at SITM.
He always had some great stories. Damn.

I keep thinking about how many 928 and other car friends we have lost over the last few years and it is sobering to know that many of us are aging out of our cars and the enjoyment they bring.
When I go to a cars and coffee event, many if not most of the car guys are well over the age of 60. Occasionally there are some younger people in the mix and conversations often wander into medical issues rather than be solely focused on what we are doing with our cars... I've focused on bringing younger people into the various groups I hang out with and Steve did as well.
This is what the world saw of Steve for nearly a half a million miles in his 40th anniversary 911. I think he put another 500,000 on 928's as he loved to drive, drive, drive...
And, stopping for lunch on another one of our spontaneous "Hey! Let's meet up at (wherever)"...
RIP Steve!
We miss you!
P.S. There are things that words can not fix....
