WTT 3.09 Differential for ...
At some point this winter I'm dropping the drivetrain of my five speed GTS. It has 3.09 rear end. Great for AX not so great otherwise.
I am looking for a compatible 2.73 ratio.
Not in a particular rush.

Is your GTS a 5-speed or an automatic?

Buy a new GTS ring and pinion, from Porsche.
Fairly economical.
Install.

I don't know anything about 928 A/T's but if you want a 2.20 then Greg is right, Porsche's price is a steal.
I did somehow wind up with a 2.54 ring & pinion for an A/T diff which I would be happy to part with, if that is of any interest.

Kevin,
I had a 2.54 diff in my '89 S4 manual trans track car (and also in '94 and '95 automatics). I really like it. Much better than the 2.20 I've had in various S4's, and I like the slightly lower cruising RPM's better than the 2.73 in friends GT's I've ridden long distances in. Just my experience.

Back in the day Walt Konecy (sp) replaced his 90 GT's Diff with a 2.2.

I have a spare G28.55 with a damaged crown - PSD fluid leaked inside the box - and have been meaning to see if a GTS final drive can be made to fit inside the GT box. If not, I still need a spare GTS final drive - they aren't getting cheaper or more available and then I would swap an S4 G28.13 RoW final drive in the G28.55 and keep it as a second spare alongside my good G28.55. Yes, I know, having two G28.55 side by side is pure greed...

To remove any confusion, 5 speed ring and pinions are not remotely similar to automatic ring and pinions.

Are you sure it's not the Euro/RoW 2.64:1 diff and not 2.54? I have not heard anyone being able to swap an Auto final drive in a 5spd box...

I've installed several GTS ring and pinions (with GTS 5th gears) into GT transmissions. Buying both the ring and pinion, along with the 5th gear is more economical than buying just the GT ring and pinion!
BTW: The latest GTS ring and pinions are also of very high quality, built on modern CNC gear machinery, and are amazingly quiet. Significantly reduced backlash specifications.
HUGE change from a GT or early GTS ring and pinion. "Night and day" type of difference.

GT and GTS ring and pinions are interchangeable, with the exception that you need a 5th gear to match whichever one you choose.

I've never needed to buy a new automatic ring and pinion, from any model year or ratio.
Thinking about that, I've done plenty of high mileage automatics, so the ring and pinions must be very durable.
