‘89 GT Pricing Help
After 24 years of ownership I think the time has come for me to sell my ‘89GT. The problem is I really have not paid much attention to what the car might be worth. I’ve never seriously considered selling it. As I get older I find my tastes of what I want to drive are varying widely and I do not have enough room, or money, to have them all. I am curious about input on what I should price it at and where is the best place to sell it. Here are a few details of the car:
’89GT - Slate Grey Metallic
91k miles
5-speed (it is a GT)
Runs and drives great.
Engine rebuilt at 83k with tons of new parts and the head being rebuilt by Greg Brown. I can put together a list of all the parts as I did the rebuild myself.
Sport seats
Intake and valve covers powder coated during the engine rebuild. The red Porsche letters are also powder coat.
AC does not work. I’ve never needed it so it has never risen to the top of the list of things to fix.
Original paint. Has some chips. I consider the car a driver and not a show car.
There are a lot more details but here are a few pics. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I dunno, looks pretty great from here. There are only six '89 GTs in Slate Grey metallic, and only three with sport seats. I would get the AC working, don't give potential buyers any excuses for negotiating you down. No idea what it's worth in this uncertain market but with a Greg Brown rebuild and as many issues as you can fix, it'd be a great candidate for Bring a Trailer- it's the biggest market for top tier 928s.

Just a swag.....$50K
Relatively low miles (91K is just broken in). Engine (if original) having a GB head work is a big plus. Sport seats are a big plus. Grey is a relatively rare color for the 89GTs.
You really should get the A/C working as then it'll present as a well sorted.
Remember its one of approx 109 in the US/Canada and finding one will only get more difficult (e.g. good for long-term value).
I would suggest BAT, but seems they like the totally rebuilt concours ones and the other (drivers) haven't done as well.

Gorgeous car. Agree with the above on fixing the AC before you sell. BAT seems to bring top dollar, but that has been fluctuating a good bit lately. (I often wonder with BAT how much the near term stock market moves impact bidding.) I put $50K at a bare minimum for what you've shared above. Worth much more in my opinion.

Once the AC works, that looks like a $60-$70k car....and why I don't have a GT or GTS 🙁

Wow thats a great looking car,
My BaT selling price guess, 75K
Caveats ,
with the AC fixed ,
It would be worth putting on a new set of tires.
Get a paint correction done,
fix anything else that you might have overlooked.

If I could wolf whistle here I would. What a nice looking car. Super clean under the hood. What is the interior like? I'm sure you would do very well on Bring a trailer.

Absolutely gorgeous car. Agree with others on fixing the AC and it being a BAT candidate.
But...
I don't agree with their price estimates. Prices in the car mkt, incl the shark mkt, are falling. At the height of COVID craziness, a 27K mi '88 S4 5-spd went for $96.5 on BAT but the COVID fever broke in July 2022. Prices have been declining since then but the shark mkt had been holding its own, just not to the level of COVID craziness. As the economy weakens, prices in general and esp in the shark mkt have taken shots. A recent S4 5-spd on BAT was only bid to $32 and an 89 S4 auto was bid to $20. Both reserve not met. GTSs that were $100-120 all day are now $80. Each car is unique with it's own story when it comes to mileage, maint, and quality so you need to research carefully when comparing to yours, but there's no question prices have dropped in the last 3 mo. However, so has the whole car mkt.
The bad news is it won't be getting better anytime soon. Banks have been repoing cars since last spring and continue to do so in record numbers. These cars are flooding the auctions and driving prices down. Credit card debt is piling up. It's now to the point where people can't afford their mortgages and a housing crisis is almost here. Student loan payments are back too. People will be dumping their toys in order to have some cash on hand. Great time to buy, crappy time to sell. If you NEED to sell, better do it now as it will never be worth more then now and continue to drop as the economy falls. You're not going to get the prices listed above. Maybe $40-45. If you can hold on for 2 or 3 yrs, things might be better and you'll bring home a higher price.
Just my $0.02.
BTW
I'm watching for a nicely spec'd 987.2 Spyder and when they drop to $45-50 I'm jumping on it. When the economy comes back, they'll be worth $65-70.

Great looking car. I have a 91GT and had it recently converted to R134a. It was not cheap but I, at least, should break even on the cost with the increase in price that it should bring in a future sale.

Take a look at this site for actual data on what price Porsche 928 GT's are selling for (and what they are not selling for). https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/928/928-gt/

Old 911s seem to be immune, but so many other cars on BaT lose interest of the "investor" class when they have over 40k miles. I would not put a higher-mileage 928 on BaT, you might not find your perfect buyer in the small timeframe of an auction.

I do think the market is slightly softer than it was during COVID.....but its still a rare 928 in a rare color combo......with high interest rates and a wobbly economy and all these wars......most likely will drag the price down a bit.....but with a nice ad and "everything works just needs new driver" it should fetch over $50k IMHO

In Germany the GT are for sale from 40-70.000 € with the most cars for ~ 50.000 €. 16 cars for sale and half from dealers.
But winter is coming, in spring fun cars are more expensive!

'89 GT's are right near the top of the list of the "most desirable" 928's.
And while the "928 overall values" are down a bit, the pieces to repair them are definitely not down.
I look at the manifold, with the new factory damper in the front, and assume that the rest of the pieces are also fresh....
Currently, an intake refresh, with new dampers, regulator, idle stabilizer, throttle switch, powder coated manifold, throttle bearing and flappy bearings replaced, new vacuum hoses, new fuel hoses, gaskets, and labor will leave one with very little change from a $10,000 bill.
Pulling the heads, replacing the gaskets, having a valve job done, replacing the head bolts, timing chains, timing chain pads, updating pieces, etc. will take another $10,000.
My point is that anyone who buys a pretty well sorted '89 GT for $50K should feel like they stole it.
I'd put the value of this car closer to 75K.
