You can use all your euro parts but the US pistons will have lower compression

As there is only 91 normally available in CA where he is it doesn't sound like that bad of an idea.

Greg didn't say all the Euro's have broken ring landings; just the ones that used cheap fuel. Not implying that's what happened here, but that's usually the cause of failure.

Unfortunately the email on the website is old and not the best way to reach out.

Thanks for the clarification. I don’t know the history on this engine, but I always run high test. I’m flabbergasted with how bad the engine is and how little it smoked. I’ve torn apart many engines in my life and have never seen pistons this torn up.

Thanks for his contact info.

I’m going to upgrade the pistons so I can maintain the stock compression ratio.

I looked at nikasil plating and it is $3800! I'm debating:
1) sleeving the cylinders with iron sleeves
2) over-boring with larger pistons
3) swapping for another 4.7 block

Does anyone have experience with either of the first two options? Also, any issue using a later 4.7 block from a US car versus using the early 4.7 ROW block?

Thanks,
Camelman

I'm in the midst of Nikasiling a block, it's a metric ton of work, both before and after the actual Nikasilling happens. So $3800 isn't surprising. I don't have any experience with sleeving. The challenge with overboring is finding 98 mm pistons. You could either find another 4.7 liter shortblock, or (alternatively) you could find a good 5 liter shortblock and build yourself a 5 liter hybrid. Probably a lot more good 5 liter S3 motors sitting around than 4.7 liter S motors.
