Powdercoating window trim
In the past, I have always used paint including SEM spray bombs but for this project, I am looking to take it up a notch.
My rear window, windshield and quarter window trim needs to be finished in black. Some early trim appears to have been anodized from the factory and I may go in that direction but was also considering powdercoating.
Has anyone had the trim coated? I am a little concerned that the fit may be affected at the joint pieces with the thickness of the coating.

I have powdercoated and I have anodized, the challenge with the powdercoat is more the thickness of the coating on the backside spears that insert into the rubber. The challenge with anodizing is finding a shop that will sweat the details and do it right, I'm one for two on anodizing. The good outcome was expensive ($400 back in 2016 and I suspect it'd be double that now).
The Cerakote coatings are great to work with, it's a really good solution for drivetrain pieces, tank cradles, etc- not sure what the UV resistance is long-term on window trims?

We Cerakote some of our stainless-steel pocket clips on our flashlights. Works out much better than powder-coating which chips off easier on the edges. We tried using Cerakote in black on some exterior vehicle aluminum brackets but it faded out more than we liked so anodizing was used. Dark colors will fade pretty quickly IMO.

I've always painted them using AEM Trim black, with proper prep it can be done w/o removing the trim as it's easy to distort these parts.
If the however the car is getting a full respray and the parts are off, then I understand wanting something more durable than paint.

Thanks for all the responses! I did speak with an anodizing firm and he was very concerned about the long term durability of the black trim on the rear deck. He said some browning should be expected over time, not that the car is going to see much sun but it didn't inspire confidence.
Cerakoting is interesting, will look into that.
The car is completely apart and painted so trying to get the right result.
Amazingly the door trims have an absolute perfect finish so I am leaving them original. They appear to be powdercoated although every other 928 I have worked on appear to be painted.

Good question on Cerakote and UV. Their baked on product state 100% UV stable. The below is their highlights for their air dry C series. I can’t attest to its UV stability as I have only used it for under the hood and chassis. Great results though.

The Cerakote seems like a nice option; it's a very thin coating.
That said, the trim can be masked appropriately for powder coating if you're worried about tolerances for mating surfaces. Given what I know about powder coating, however, I'd worry significantly about how you'd connect these particular pieces in such a way that you wouldn't get small defects in the coating due to clamping, for the electrical connection.

I vote for SEM trim paint its about the best stuff you can use and it seems to last a very long time.
I have done a few sets of trims they all came out great as always preparation is key.
Otherwise buy new trims they are made slightly different but once they are on its hard to tell the difference

Thanks for all the feedback.
Painting the trim is situ is the way I have done this in the past with my other 5 928s. Since this one is apart, I want something a little more durable
A armorer friend of mine does Cerakote and is taking this on. Not sure on cost yet but I will post the results once they are finished.

Be sure to let us know which Cerakote color he chooses. There are several, most of them flat, and I am looking for a satin finish to do mine. Thanks.
