Default Small body damage repair paint question

Hello all. When I purchased my 928 in 2022 I notice a couple of small creases low on the rear QTR panel moving into the door on the passenger side and one that is much less noticeable on the drivers side.

I was curious how these happened but I didn't care I wanted the low mile car. My slight OCD bothers me that the car is not close to perfect so I need to have it fixed or just live with it, LOL

I've taken it a local excellent body and paint guy who works on all types of vehicles and he quoted me a price of $1500-2000, which I wasn't concerned with I just wanted him to repair the damage and blend the paint but he said he will not do that he needs to pull the door rub strips and blend both QTR panels.

My big concern is the rest of the paint is in excellent condition and I'm worried it won't match.

Should I be worried ? Is it not possible to repair the damage and blend the repaired area? Is this standard practice? I waited 3 months to get the car in and I just bumped it 2 months because I wanted to see what everyone thinks.

Thanks

First thing dont go back to the body shop.
My suggestion is this,
you have original paint and it is in excellent condition.
The last thing you want to do is repaint original Porsche 928 paint thats in excellent condition.
Even if it has a few chips and scratches.

Find an excellent PDR guy let them take the dents out ,
get some Hi Quality 2 stage touchup paint,
the kind that comes in a little bottle with a brush.
After the PDR guy does his work then touchup the chips and scratches,
wetsand with 2000 grit paper and water ,
then buff the area and then let it have some time to cure ,
then you can wax the area.

I think that damage is beyond PDR. There's a world of difference between a dent and a crease. A crease stretches the metal. You cannot unstretch metal. You're looking at body work. Pure and simple.

There's also damage to the painted undercoating.

Okay, I understand Stan's take on the issue, I can have a PDR expert look at the issue and see what his thoughts are.

If, Kevin is correct, what about paint/ blending the entire QTR panel vs repairing and blending just the repaired area?

Thank you for the responses

I would let PDR have a go at it, if anything it may just reduce the amount of filler used in the final repair.

Most paint shops use blending in as an excuse because they do not want to spend time doing dozens of spray-outs. That being said I would first pay the shop to do spray outs, if you come to a good match then discuss the next steps with the body shop. With metalics, they also need to play with the distance and angle of the gun as this will affect how the fleck stands up in the paint. Very few shops are willing to go the extra mile IMO.

If you can get to a really good match, blending the area may be possible.

I went through this ordeal last year with Lagoon. Visited over a dozen shops till I found one willing to do many spray-outs, they even enlisted help from the PPG rep.

Good luck.

Hello,

PDR professional looked at and he thinks he can get it out and make in look excellent.

Pull the rear arch cover for access and go down through the window, any have issue with going past the window with protection used for the glass?

PDR if possible. They will tell you upfront if they can get it perfect. Tell them do the best they can.

I have seen PDR fix way worse. Start with a real good PDR then take it from there. I think you can be at 99% without having to do body repair and paint. Just slight touch ups and the color can be extracted with the correct tone and if you stick to very small areas, you can build, sand down then polish and you will be good.

I mentioned to the PDR guy that we could go through the center door panel but he said the piece of metal he sides in front of the glass will give him the leverage he will need to correct the crease.

I'll report back with pics, repair will happen 5/13.
