Torque Converter question(s)
I'm doing a TT rebuild (Black Sea Eng) and Seals and filter on a A28/04 with no shifting issues (Seals, o-rings, Modulator, filter, gasket, etc....no internals other than o-rings I can reach easily).
Q1`: The Torque converter is just "rusty"...should I paint it? If yes what color?
Q2: The WSM mentions flushing the Torque Converter with Kerosene....with "Special tool...xxxxx" Does anyone have an opinion on this...100K+ car that the fluid was okay probably because it was constantly topped off by PO. Anyone have a Shade tree way to spinning the TC without this fancy tool?
Q2A: Auto Trans Fluid seems like a pretty good cleaner itself...could I back flush the COOLER and the TC with a few quarts of fluid instead??? It makes sense to get all the MUCK I can out of the system and never thought about FLUSHING the TC until I ran across this thread. https://www.porscherepair.us/porsche...converter.html
"Note
If ATF contains clutch plate/brake band facing particles, clean inside of torque converter with Special Tool 9310 (flushing mandrel). Fill converter with about 1 liter/quart of kerosene, install flushing mandrel and turn same with a drill running at slow speed. Repeat these procedures twice and let the fluid drain through the drain plug.
If there are metal particles in oil sump of transmission, torque converter will have to be replaced."
Any other tips on this system would be helpful.

Paging Mr. Merlin!
The one possible issue with the flushing scenario is re-introducing "sleeping" particles in the many recesses of the transmission internals back into the transmission inner workings.
Mr. Merlin would be the one to ask about all this transmission stuff.
Cheers.

Use any color you like,
I prefer gloss white, it makes finding leaks easier.
and use hi heat engine paint 500 F
I would not flush anything into the TC,
just wipe it off .
NOTE put some vaseline into the bronze bushing behind the radial seal so the TC snout wont seize.
Dont try to scrape off the front pump gasket,
it will stay on one surface,
just wipe it off,
Use DC111 on the big pump O ring,
and every other O ring you touch.
For filling
fill the pan ,
start the engine let it run for about 40 seconds then shut it off.
Repeat till you have about 8 qts in the trans.
NOTE you dont want to run the trans any more than necessary,
till its got a good amount of fluid in it,
so you dont damage the bronze bushing

Dan,
There are companies around that will rebuild your torque convertor for you relatively inexpensively, which would negate the worry about introducing foreign particular matter into your transmission. I'm sure that for the right price, they will paint it any color you choose.
