Nine-Two-Eight Or Nine-Twenty-Eight
I searched and didn't find a post like this yet, and it's always been in the back of my mind. Well, I say Nine-Two-Eight. I don't know why, it just sounds better that way to me. I guess the correct way would be Nine-Twenty-Eight, since you don't call a Nine-Eleven a Nine-One-One. Just wanted your opinion. Thanks!

US: mostly nine-twenty-eight, rarely nine-two-eight, never nine-hundred-twenty eight.
Germany: mostly neun-achtundzwanzig, frequently neunhundertachtundzwanzig, never neun-zwei-acht.

I know for fact that the porch/porsche debate has been covered many times. I think there even was a link to a german pronunciation sound file or something.

Don,
I agree for most models, but what about 996 and 997?
As for the pronunciation debate - not much of a debate. Pronounce it how you want but then realize that you may be saying it incorrectly . . .

Interesting thread, I've always wondered, but I use both nine-two-eight and nine-twenty eight. When I discuss this car with friends, most say "Huh?", wondering why I'm mentioning a number. I explain that the Germans are so technically oriented that a number, being as exact as can be, is the only way to go for them...then I say further that these are "project numbers". I expand to say that there is always a logic to German nomenclature, again exacting, but not very exciting, (but we know that...they leave the excitement to driving). For example: Mercedes Benz 560SEL, 190D, 280SLK; Audi 4000S; BMW 540i, 745iL, and so on. This is a contrast to other makers' "Lusso", "Diablo", "Maranello" stuff, which does evoke some excitement.
Nicole-thanks, I've wondered forever how it is said in German.
Germany: mostly neun-achtundzwanzig, frequently neunhundertachtundzwanzig, never neun-zwei-acht.
Doesn't the first one literally say, in its order of being said, "nine-eight-twenty"? (I know zwanzig is 20). Must be a grammatical rule.
