1980 seat problem
Hello all. I'm pretty new to the rennlist, but have been lurking for awhile.
I’ve got a problem with my drivers seat and wanted to know if any of you have seen/fixed this before. The edge of the seat bottom, closest to the door, is pretty loose. It seems as if something structural in the seat has broken. It’s bad enough that the seat controls will hit the emergency brake if weight is put on the edge of the seat. When this happens, the seat will begin to move. I’m just curious if the framework for my seat will need to be welded, and how much trouble it is to remove and replace the seat bottom cover.

Snoz, I just replaced the seats in my 81 with some new ones. If you are needing a bottom assembly, I would sell you the bottom section dirt cheap. They are black leather and power, but the leather has shrunken pretty badly, it may not be too bad to use your current leather covering and put it over another seat. My seats are just setting around in the garage. Let me know if you are interested.

You guys are driving around with seats not anchored to the body?? Ah, the days of being a bouncing tracktor jocky and seeing how fast I could take the curve w/o dumping the hay bales. Don't know about the '81, but if you are reattaching the socket head bolts, do the rear first; if the front bolt is completely out (sounds like) the front attachment plate will drop to the floor. Crank the seat all the way rear, there is just room for your finger under the rail and plate, you have to hold it in position while starting the bolt. HTH.

The seat is firmly attached. It is just the edge closest to the door that can move. I have a feeling that one of the previous owners, possibly of high density, had a habit of plopping down on the edge of the seat when entering the car.
Chris,
I'm interested in buying a seat bottom from you. I assume they would be the same between '80 and '81. It would save me the trouble of welding, and possibly weakening, the framework of the seat.
It's off topic, but my 928 just became my daily driver. I just had a timing belt failure in my Talon. Now I don't have to make up excuses to drive the 928 every day.

For those of you who haven't expreienced this problem, it's moderately amusing to see the guy at the car wash get smushed into the stering wheel while cleaning the windows. For some reason, it is not near as amusing when it happens to me.
