Default Wooo Hooo GTS is finally here (long)

Wooo Hooo, she finally arrived. After several weeks the GTS is here!!!! Couldn't be more pleased. The car is in excellent condition and other then some minor things needing attention (55K miles) she is a real gem.

I purchased the car from Michael Willhoit and I have to admit he trully is Mr GTS. He knows his cars and makes buying a 12 year old beauty like this a very pleasureable experiance. The car was imacculately detailed. Any stone chips or blemishes were professionally touched up and are barely noticable. (under any light but Fluorescent) The interior is almost flawless and the car is completely stock, except one pair of MB quart QX325's. It has never been damaged and the paint looks factory. Although the passenger rear quater is smoother than the rest with much less orange peel, could be suspect but doesn't look it. If it was it was done properly.

I received the documentation in advance of having the car delivered. I have every service record up until a few months ago. She is a 3 owner car. The first owned the car until 2000 the second until 2003. Both owners lived in PA and had all service performed by Holbert Motors. Everything is documented with oil changes every 500-2000 miles for the first 2 years and never going longer than 3000 miles after that. The third owner lived in Oregon and had the car serviced by a local shop. He drove the car about 5k miles.

All required services performed, including cam belt at 43k, recent water pump, steering rack, alternator, battery & clutch within the past 10k miles or sooner. The only thing missing is the Window Sticker or any purchase documentation. Oh well. You can't win them all. I have all this info for my Turbo.

The color is Amazon Green pearlcoat with Cashmere Tan interior. Options include, 5 speed tranny, supple leather front and rear, sport shocks, CD-1 radio, sunroof, painted crests and of all things the factory phone option. Th phone is a blast from the past. The thing weighs a ton and is totally useless today. I may need to remove and replace it with a regular console if I can do it in a way that it can be reinstalled later.

She also came with a new set of rotors which I may be selling in order to upgrade to cross drilled ones. If anyone is interested PM me.

Here is a picture for now as I continue to post more about the purchase.

So now about the purchase. As you may know I have been looking for a GTS for a while. The last one was a bad experiance and I was pissed off when the seller sold the car after I was positive we had a deal. Oh well life goes on and I am happier with the 5 speed anyhow.

I would like to thank everyone on this Board for all their help and insight. It has made this entire experiance great. I have learned so much in the past few months that I feel as though I have owned one for years. Thanks to all who put me in touch with Low Miler and thank you Low Miler for putting me in touch with Michael. Without your help this car would have been sold within days an I would have totally missed out on it. Todd, I need to get in touch with you I hope your hungry for some steak.

I understand that another rennlister was looking at this car and could not come to an agreement on the purchase. I contacted Michael after Low Miler pointed this out to me and Michael said the deal had fallen through and the car was indeed available. Not wanting to loose this one I purchased it sight unseen. Michael made me feel very comfortable about this one and I saw no down side other than it is a 12 year old car with 55k miles. (which really is not a down side)

I highly recommend doing business with Michael, he is very up front and knowledgeable. His price was fair and the car is as represented. It looks and feels more like a 20k mile car than a 55k mile car.

Michaels friend Rick delivered the car yesterday to me when promissed within an hour. Really nice guy and he has seen and driven just about everything imaginable around in his rig. He had 3 cars in his rig a '95 vette with low mileage and a '66 cobra replica that Michael sold to LT1's father here in NJ. Again another great car in tremendous condition. What a beast that must be.

It was easier to have the car delivered and would have cost me more in the long run to fly out and drive it back than it was to truck it. Although it took a week longer than I was hoping and I was really loosing my cool for a while. The waiting and unknowing is killer. Not to mention work has been a super bitch lately.

Here are some more pics as I give you my first driving impressions. BTW my camera sucks and these pictures do neither colr justice.

Anthony,

What a fantastic color! I look forward to hearing the driving comparisons--too bad we have a nor'easter here this weekend.

I know you were asking a zillion questions about the 928 for the last couple of months. Glad we convinced you to pull the trigger, though I really don't think there was much are twisting...sounded like you wanted one regardless. Very nice car and a great color! Rich A in AZ has the same color and the great thing about it is, the color changes in mnay different lighting situations. Can't wait to see the interior. You will be quite happy with the 5 speed once you "really" figure out how to drive it. I know you are probably saying to yourself, heck, I know how to drive a stick, but I have found that after a while of feeling the car out and getting to know it's personality, you find the sweet spots of the car. I recommend Redline MTD for the tranny. This will make the shifting quick, quiet and smooth like butter. It changed the shifting charactoristics of my car and it is an absolute blast to drive now. With the shifting being so quick, the car gets up to triple digits from a standing start in no time!

Congratulations, have fun, be safe and good luck!

Thanks guys.

Had a nice afternoon of driving yesterday and it all came back after years of being without. I always loved the comfortable feel you get sitting in these seats and driving such a well balanced car. Unlike the turbos heavy *** end always tugging at you. I need to learn how to get the power up on these things. Much different foot work and the top mounted pedals vs the floor mounted ones took some getting used to again.

I think after 55k miles she could use new shocks. The suspension feels a bit antiquated as did the turbo. Need suggestions, thinking Bilstein. Anyone done springs and shocks recently?

In any case whatever I do I want it to be reversible.

Thanks again

Guess we crossed.

Yes, I know what you mean the power is very linear compared to the turbo and the turbo is actually easier to drive. But when you find that sweat spot as you so aptly put it she is a blast. I find I have to work the pedals totally different than the 911. Which makes the experience even better. I bought the GTS because I wanted a different driving experience and this is just another example of why Porsche in my book is the best auto manufacturer ever. Each car a different experience yet uniquely Porsche. Truly is no substitute.

One last thing every time I turn the key it just brings back that scene from Risky Business.

Interior as requested.

Great car, sweet color...it almost looked blue in the first picture! Like you said very different feel than your turbo. I hope you have a three car garage....otherwise it looks like the Cayenne TT is on the street!

Anthony,
A treasure it is! With your well trained camera, it even looks more cobalt blue than green - must be a family trait . Thanks for the pleasant PM earlier, and enjoy the 5-sp.
