Ernest perhaps the good doctor when faced with the decision of what shall I do this Saturday morning ? opted to do a $4,000 breast augmentation rather than clean his engine. What is considered normal behavior on this forum is not necessarily viewed the same by the general population.

I'll bet he looks funny now. And I'll bet his back hurts too.

I am a touch concerned about the discolored appearing dash. It looks grey/green on top and grey on the sides. Is it just a trick of the camera or is it really that bad? Oh well, 91' grey airbag dashes are a dime a dozen.

WTF? I have no idea how you guys see stuff like that. I see a shade of grey and that's about it.
We need to get Nicole to tell us which grey this is.

Classic Grey dashes a dime a dozen?

This isn't in the Registry. Intersting that it is 0250 and my 91 white/classic grey is 0240

It looked decent until the hood was opened. Now I know not everyone keeps their engine spotless.....but my first 928 ('87 S4) with 120K miles looked brand new under the hood next to that thing......and it wasn't owned by a car guy either. As a GT owner I like to see the cars bring high prices.....but this looks like one of those cars that might take $5K to get into "nice" shape. I would say $20k-$21K is probably enough.

I don't know what work has been done on it........but if I were buying a 928 of this vintage I would either wait for a lower mileage one and pay more or a higher mileage one and pay less. Getting into the 60-80K mileage range on a 928 is $$$ area......just when most things are starting to go.....steering rack, A/C compressor, cam seals, oil pan gasket, motor mounts, torque tube, radiator, etc. More reasons to be prudent with this one.

Rough around the edges for low twenties, eh? I wonder what a nearly perfect one will go for????
Me too.
Jim H,
A '91 GT in DC? I wasn't aware of one. Details?
Worf928,
Interior temperature sensor is not original - I think - as it is black and not interior color. If so, likely that the dash was cracked when the original was incorrectly removed.
Not necessarily so. My car was close to a flawless, garage queen when I got it....except for the cracked temp sensor cover. The orig. cover was black. My interior is Classic Grey. I know that the dash has not been monkeyed with, so I have no idea how/why the sensor cracked, but they apparently just crack (Jaeger wouldn't have set up a die to make covers if they didn't).
And just in case my dash does crack, Ketchmi, I'm very interested in getting a dozen Classic Grey dashes for a dime.....I'll just keep them around as conversation pieces.
...and kudos to whomever did the engine bay detail job in SethW's post (if it was you, Seth...wow) Now that took some time....and probably not much time left to do some boob enhancements either. It's all about priorities, I guess.

OK, so the car has 67K miles, but how many miles on that motor??? Egad!!! If he posted that pic on the eBay ad, half the people would cancel their bids.

Yeah, come to think of it the car is a total piece of ****. 91GTs are a dime a dozen. I'd pass too.
Wait for the perfect car at the perfect price in the perfect condition, that's my motto. I don't want to waste any of my valuable time fixing one of these things up. I'm thinking of getting a Honda anyway.

So the engine is dusty and the intake has peeled. What else is so horrible in there? The car has lived in a hot, dusty climate, so wht's surprising about a peeling intake and dust after 15 years?

The pictures are too low resolution to see much detail. The dash got some light through the tinted glass (green) and some through the open doors - that likely explains the color differences on the pics. Overall, on those pictures the interior looks better than the interiors of at least 80% of the 928s out there.

My main concern are the large speakers in the doors - How were they installed? Have they cut into the metal underneath?

PS: Interior is classic grey, and it took me quite a while to find a car with a clean classic grey interior.

The guy has already promised and backed out of two deals. I wouldn't send a penny without title in hand. Sketchy dude.

Good luck.

If I had a bunch of tire kickers calling me and emailing me and drooling all over my car I wouldn't sell it either until I satisfied myself that I wasn't giving it away.
I'd wait until the auction ended and, if it didn't sell THEN I'd take the first VERIFIABLE cashier's check for what I thought I'd figured out what it was worth.
The opportunity for a "seal" has passed. It'll go for markrt price. I paid $23K for mine in a little better condition cosmetically and with the usual maintenence issues.

Ernest, thanks for posting the pics... for what they are worth.

Anyone get the option codes and are we for certain that this is a GT not an S4?

Sure as hell wish I could kick those tires in person!

No actually the guy agreed to a deal and then left two people hanging in the wind. Thats not cool. I figure if you offer a price and someone takes the time to accept it and make the arrangements, you don't leave them twisting in the wind. Especially when they spend their hard earned money to go and get it!

Just my take on the deal.
