My heater box has sprung a leakg its on an 1982 Euro 928S

From what I can see, its a major job, remove the dash and most stuff behind it to get to this?

Any tuips to make life easier?

First make sure that it isn't just leaking from one of the hoses under the rainshield(windshield wiper area) and spraying inside along the pipe. It's easier to get to if you pull the wiper motor. Be sure to use a fender cover of some kind to avoid scratches... 928 Int'l has some really nice ones.

Where's the water coming from and are you sure it's coolant?

I am sure its coolant, its coming into the drivers footwell from the middle , when I removed the hoses and shorted out the heaterbox, no more water!!!

I am taking out the interior to have it recovered so getting to this should be easier although it seems to be very well buried!!

Might be some really clever way to do it, but I think the dash has to come out to get at that heater box.

Have you checked where the the hoses connect to the heater core? That's rougly below the wiper motor. Not sure it would run in, but would be an easier fix.

Before you go all nuts with this, verify it's actually the core and not the hoses that were leaking. You can plug one end of the core and pump it down with a mityvac, or preferably plug one end and put an old tire valve on the other end. Pump up to no more than 15psi and see if it leaks down. Better yet, plumb in a gauge since checking with a tire gauge will reduce pressure every time you check.
