Default Need a good 928 GTS Mechanic in Miami, FL

Hello gang,

I need a trusted 928 specialist in Miami or Fort Lauderdale, FL
Details:
1994 928 GTS Automatic (54K miles)
Issues (known)
- PSD light is on ("Differential Control off")
- Transmission shifts a little hard
- Engine does not seem to be tuned well
-

I looked at the Q&A for the recommended mechanic list but is was no longer available.

Help,

Martin

It's been a good while since I've been there, but this place was pretty 928 knowledgeable:

These items will challenge the best of the 928 mechanics you will find. The GTS automatics are famous for thrust bearing failure, even at this low mileage. Make sure you add "relax the flexplate" and add in (at the very least) a supplemental "Porken klamp", until either the engine or transmission is out and you can add in a Constantine clamp. Best money you will spend on the car!

Thanks for the input Greg
I spoke to a Vincent at the above recommended mechanic shop. I told him I didn't want to waist our time and my money unless he was more than well versed in 928s. He agreed that 928s are a special breed and assured me that he considers his shop "one of the best 928 shops in the country".
Is your feedback something I should share with him when I drop it off?

Thanks,

Martin

Justin Stokes of Stokes Automotive (2429 SW 57th Ter West Park, FL 33023, (954) 458-0044) specializes in 928.
Always seems to have a couple of 928s in his garage but he is currently overworked.
Worked since 20 years on my 944 and certainly will on my 928 once I bring it over. Recommended. MN

Gulf Perfomance seems to always get good reviews for working on 928s. But Justin must be a heck of a 944/928 mechanic if your commuting your car all the way from Ga to So. Fla!

Guys if you have a favorite shop please PM me all the specifics of it. I am going to update the 928 iPhone App and it includes shops all across America that at one point or another someone with a 928 has found to be helpful... Some of the shops may not still be open and there are certainly new ones that need to be included.

Fire away...Oh, the app is 928 Legend...you can find it in the Apple App store.

Default What happened?

What was your experience with Gulf? I am also looking for a good 928 mechanic in Miami,
I'm surprised no one mentioned Vertex....they have been around for a while. In any case, they quoted me over $2000 in just labor for a timing belt replacement....rather high for just a timing belt.
I need a few things done in a new 90 GT....starting with the timing belt, and the same issue you have, the PSD warning.

Gulf Performance is outstanding. You should have a great experience with them.

Regarding your PSD....you'll need a new pump. I've replaced 3 of those on GTS's of mine over the years. Runs around $1000-$1200 if I remember correctly.

Keep us posted on your progress
