In AZ what Rich said - a really good set of options....

Unless yu've already seen it - before you get to Flagstaff take a zip up to the Grand Canyon - can't miss that one !! Road is not so special - till you get to the end... Not too far to be impractical if you have about half a day to spare...

Larry...I'd echo what sharkskin, Ron_H and Rich9928p said;
especially the bit from Flagstaff-Jerome-Prescott.

But how are you to get to Utah??

The I-84 from Pendleton to Ogden is pretty nice even 'tho
it's Interstate. But then there're US 395 and US 95, US50
(the lonliest road in the USA), to Ely, then south to Panaca,
Cedar Breaks, Kanab, Page, AZ and south to Flagstaff.

On your return try the US101 from Ukiah to Eureka. That's
928 country.

G'luck.

Yep. If you want to see some of the highlights of Utah state road 12, check out pages 6 & 7 of that thread. Coming down from the north, it would be a little swing out of your way to the east, and you'd basically run the road backwards from how I take it.

But get out your map and see if Utah 12 would work for your trip.

That's also a nice route. You might think about heading south out of Kanab and going past the North rim of the Grand Canyon. You meet back up with the road described above a little ways south of Page.

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback! I will get out my maps and go through your suggestions tonight. It looks like I have a lot to choose from!

If you are in Utah, check out the area around Hwy 70 / Hwy 50 and find Salina on the map. Draw a circle about 50 miles around Salina, and keep a block of ice handy for when you're in that circled area. There is reputed to be a highway patrol training facility around that area. You should sit on that block of ice until you are out of the circled area. Ask me how I know all of this.

If you come across Nevada on Hwy 50, stop and ask the Nevada Hwy Patrol if there is activity on the roads by birds and grasshoppers. The grasshoppers can get so thick you will think it is raining or turning dark (really) and the cars kill the grasshoppers and then the birds come to feast on the grasshoppers lying on the roadway. They will not fly away until you get within a few feet of them. You don't want to experience hitting a bird on the windshield at 135 mph, take my word for it. You won't see it before it happens; it will just slam into the car as they try to fly above the front bumper.

Hwy 395 was suggested in California. A really nice cruising road for a 928 down the back side of the state. You'll want to turn around and do it again, back and forth.

Larry~

Check out this site! No affiliation, but an awesome reference tool!
Maps, real photos, and plenty of commentary for each road. Unfortunately, they just recently started charging an annual $20 membership fee... Still well worth it IMHO!!

When you've got a cool ride, does it really matter what road you're on?
