1987 Porsche 928 S4
Looking at a 87 928 S4 with 170k on the clock. In the last 12k it has had a t-belt, waterpump, radiator, and rebuilt transmission installed. Owner says he even had a PPI done on it already for potential interested buyers. Owner also has the original window sticker, books, records, and tool kit. He said the original owner was a doctor that kept the car garaged. Owner claims the interior is mint with no dash cracks what so ever and with a perfect leather interior. Kinda rare for a car with such high miles to have a perfect interior? The car also has ATP wheels/tires on it and really updates the looks. I guess my main question is should I be concerned with a car with such high miles? Also 928 prices are all over the place, what would you offer this person for a car like this if a PPI checked out?

I paid around $7500 after tax title everything for my 87. Under 60k 5spd. There are quite a few good examples in this area. look in the midwest (Cincinnati area). I found about 6 in the under 10K mark.

WoW, you guys are tough.
He's describing a Mint '87 w/records and all maint up to date; miles are his only question @ 170k. If PPI checks out, 170k shouldn't be concerning - I'm thinking this is a sweet car that should prove to be an excellent purchase more in the $10k+/-... and if kept in similar Mint condition should easily make 300k+.

My '87 w/84k miles was $10,500 with all records, books, window sticker and $28k in maintenance receipts. The car was always garaged - until I got it - and was detailed every year. The paint and interior are nearly perfect! I sold my 86.5 - which I owned for 14 years - with 225K miles on it a couple of months ago and the guy who bought it drives it everyday. I know because I see it everyday! High mileage doesn't really mean that much if the car has been well maintained. I had $41k in maintenance receipts!

Just because a few of us are bottom feeders doesn't mean that's all an S4 is worth.
Money and time (time is money too) is so easily spent on these cars after purchase...if all maintenance is up to date and then some (enthusiast owned), I wouldn't think that $20K+ is not out of the question for an S4.

Three Wheelin'
damn, I'm with Andrew here: $8k is the target figure here. With half the miles, I'd put the same car in the $10 - $12k range.
anyway, for all of our sakes, I hope it goes for mega-bucks. The market has held steady the past three years--i.e. they have not lost value-- so I'd like to see 'em creep up. It seems there has been a surge in interest of late...
